A SAD GOODBYE TO A GORGEOUS BOY AUGUST (20.8.2021)
A devastated Val said “My special boy, Honour, went to Rainbow Bridge at the age of 13yrs as the result of him having mast cell tumours.
We had had numerous tests done for him and nothing untoward was found but he suddenly went downhill, almost before our eyes.
Thankfully, he only had about 2 days when he was extremely poorly and it was then that tests finally showed us the problem.
He passed peacefully in my arms. Although I have had dogs all my life and have loved them all there was something very special about Honour. We had a unique bond that will stay with me forever.”
HONOUR’S VERY HAPPY LIFE
Honour enjoyed a wonderful, almost six years, of life in “Chez Turner”. His days were filled with love and affection and he always received the very best of care. In return his love was unconditional and ever-lasting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In Honour’s own words “I have had a brilliant life since I teamed up with Mummy Val and Daddy Barry. Well, what dog wouldn’t?”
As you can see from the very last entries in the diary I kept, I lived a very happy life right up till it was almost time for me to go and see the very special man called God (that’s DOG backwards) who made all us dogs and humans and even cats!!!!!
By the time I departed on my journey, I was actually looking forward to being re-united with some of the most special IRR friends out of the uggins that I have made. Guido, of course, was one of my extra special mates. I wonder if he still needs a buggy? If so, maybe he will let me take a spin in it?
Anyway, I thought it would be nice for you to see some of the highlights from my diary and, hopefully, it will help to re-assure any future dogs who fall upon hard times that there is a very happy life awaiting you.
Now, by my pawculations, I crossed the Bridge on 20th August which was only 13 days after my 13th birthday which we all celebrated, as usual, on 7th August.

And, guess what, that co-incided with a lovely, very special last hollibobs with us all together.
VIEWS NEAR OUR COTTAGE
We went to our cottage in Yorkshire where Mum said how good it was to feel some freedom at last after all the worries about that Covid thingy- wotsit. There were no coffee shops, no pubs, just a Tesco delivery, but it was grrrreat. Mum said we were amazing (each in our own way) but I think all of us are now ready for a complete rest. In my case, a wee bit more than Mum expects but I will be as kind as I can and I’ll try to let her down gently.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MY DIARY
NUMBER ONE (26.7.2016)
This is me dining out with my hooman family at lunchtime today. I really like the Summer-time as lots of restaurants have tables outside so I can go too. Today’s place keep a bowl especially for me and a special umbrella so how cool is that ???? Wishing Happy Summer days to all you fur babies out there xx
NUMBER TWO (7.8.2016)
“Good morning everyone. Today is my 8th birthday so we are all having a lie in to conserve our energy for when my cousins (Jasmyne and Xana) come to my party.
I’ve learnt so much in the last 10months since IRR let me find my new home and life is good…. yeah !!. Sending wuffs and wags to everyone luv Honour xx
Mum said “We want to say a huge “Thank you” to all of the IRR team who have been extremely supportive. It is very much appreciated”.
NUMBER THREE (10.10.2016)
Today, I heard my Mum proudly telling people about meeee and saying “It is my beautiful IRR fur baby’s very first Gotcha day”
Exactly a year ago today, he arrived at Ferrybridge Services for us to meet him. It was, definitely, love at first sight and our life has been much , much richer with Honour being a part of it. I love you to the moon and back little man, thank you for finding us xxx”

Mum announced to her friends that “Today is our beautiful IRR boy’s 10th birthday. Honour found us 3yrs ago now. He is the most loving, happy boy we could ever wish for. How lucky are we to have him share our life ? Happy Birthday “ little man”. We will love you forever and ever xxx”
NUMBER SEVEN (19.11.2017)
I told everyone “It’s exhausting work being an ambassador for IRR but we’ve had a grrrreat day. We raised £92 but mummy says, more importantly, we spoke to loads of people through the day and none of them previously knew about IRR ……. well, NOW they do !!! …. We also had 3 people who gave Mummy their contact details and showed an interest in possibly fostering so Mummy will be calling them sometime soon. Paws crossed they come good.
I’m going to bed now because I am very, very tiiiiired

“Yes I know my Bruv looks cute in his buggy but I have WALKED all the way round !!! xxx”

“Mum was a bit worried about me today. I heard her telling her lovely Facebook friends “Please keep my boy, Honour, in your thoughts today. He is being admitted for exploratory chest X-ray and abdominal scans. She explained to them that we have been trying to find out the problem since January. Mum has her fingers crossed that we get good results today.
Being a good boy, I have my paws crossed too”.

THE SADDEST DAY
WE SAID “GOODBYE” TO OUR BELOVED GUIDO
It was the saddest of days when we said “goodbye” to our beloved Guido Guido Turner – Irish Retriever Rescue but, with Archangel Gizzie Dog Pawitry – Irish Retriever Rescue lending a paw, he wrote a very special pawem for us:-
I’m now in God’s garden and he loves me too.
I’m happy and healthy. All you told me was true.
No dog here is poorly and no dog is old,
We don’t get too hot and we’ll never be cold.
You said God would love me, you said I’d run free
To prance like a puppy and water each tree
To sing in the breeze and to bathe in the rain
You set free my spirit and I’m young again
One day, in the future, we will reunite.
I’ll be ready and waiting, halo shiny and bright.
I’ll hug you and kiss you and you’ll me fuss me too
Together forever we’ll start life anew”.
NUMBER THIRTEEN (30.9.2018)
“We went for a long walk today but, as the Dogtor Lady said, my hips are very arthritic (whatever that means). I think it is something to do with all the medicines that Mummy gives me. Anyway, Mummy said I could ride in Guido’s buggy.
She was sure he wouldn’t mind so I did and I was a very good boy. I didn’t wriggle so we went a very long way ….. phew !!!
We all miss our darling Guido sooooo much xxx”

“I’m a bit tired now cos it’s been a busy day with my cousins, Jasmyne & Xana. They have helped me to celebrate my 3rd Gotcha day so now it’s time for Mummy cuddles’

Mum told everyone “We are having a great time in Yorkshire. It has been a steep learning curve for Cody, bless him, but he is doing really well, with, of course a lot of help from Honour x x x”
NUMBER SIXTEEN (10.10.2019)
Mum was telling her friends on IRR Pictures and Chat “4yrs ago today our little man arrived at Ferrybridge Services on the IRR Transport”.
” (She was going to be my Fosterer Lady but, apparently, she “failed”).
I think quite a few fosterers do that when they love their Foster Kids too much to let them go (even to the very best other homes).You’d think failure was a bad thing but, in this situation, it is the most wonderful outcome, ever, ever, ever*.
She told them “From the moment I cuddled him, I knew he was special and he wasn’t going anywhere, anytime soon”. As she typed the words, she looked at me and said “Happy Gotcha Day, Honour. You are a very special person, love you forever. xxx”

Mum posted “For some reason I think Honour is putting Cody in his place !!! but he doesn’t seem very bothered ….. HAPPY boys xxx”

Mum posted “Happy Gotcha Day, Honour, 5 years ago today our lives became much richer when this wonderful, gentle boy came into our lives. I knew from the moment he stepped off the transport he was very special. We all love you so much little man. Thank you for finding us xxx”
HISTORY
His fosterer, Val, said “Honour has a most pleasant personality, is very affectionate and loves cuddles”.
SOCIAL LEARNING & FOSTERER’S ASSESSMENT
Honour is housetrained and good with children. He gets on well with both dogs and cats. His best friend was a cat and they slept together! Honour has good recall and is progressing with his strong lead walking which will continue to improve with continuing training.
DREAM HOME
Honour would suit most homes that would give him the love, affection and training needed to bring out the best in him.
THE BEST POSSIBLE NEWS (November 2015)
Honour’s fosterers have fallen totally in love with him (there’s a surprise) so he will be staying with Val and Barry in his Forever Home for ever and ever.
He really couldn’t have done any better. What a lucky boy! We think he hit the jackpot and has really come up trumps!
