Alfie Peacock

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 29 June 2023

Alfie’s mum said, “It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to our darling Alfie today. Nasty aggressive cancer took him just a month short of his 14 birthday. He didn’t find his forever home with us he found his forever family. He was so loved and he gave us endless love back. The journey has been the best ever and full of the happiest memories. Much love to all those who have felt the pain we feel today. Thank you IRR. xx”

History

TIMID ALFIE’S STORY

In 2012, Alfie was 3 years old when he was surrendered to IRR due to family illness. Alfie was very timid, fearful and shook incessantly while at the grooming parlour.

FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT

He was fostered in Warwickshire by Helen who said “Alfie is a remarkable dog. He is coming out of his shell little by little. He longs to please and although he is a little timid with new people his curiosity takes over and he can’t wait to introduce himself to the newcomer.”.

Social Learning

He is house-trained but had a few initial ‘accidents’ due to his new environment – which was to be expected. He barks to be let outside, as he is such a clean dog in the house. He is good on the lead and loud noises do not seem to faze him

Animals: Alfie fitted in with my two dogs, a Newfoundland called Annie and a neutered male Shar-pei cross Collie, who are very out-going. They all get on like a house on fire. I am quite literally bowled over by Alfie, he loves to discover new friends, be they animals or people, and he isn’t afraid of making friends with them despite his timid nature. He is good with cats and even my rabbit, Boddy, got an introduction off him in his cage and he didn’t try to do anything to him!

Children: Alfie appears to know what is acceptable behaviour with children, he was very good with a two year old child who came to visit. Alfie doesn’t appear to be food possessive, he is not a counter cruiser nor does he jump onto the furniture. He is a very bright dog and would fit into any family environment. We haven’t tested his recall yet. Alfie is a dream of a dog in every sense.

UPDATE FROM ALFIE’S FOREVER HOME (March 2012)

We would like to send you a huge thank you for matching us with Alfie. Although it is early days, he really is the sweetest natured dog.

We thought that, with all he had been through, it would be a while before he really settled. We expected him to be nervous, unable to trust humans and to show limited manners in the house but he is adorable, cuddly and a complete softy.

His house manners are perfect, although he would like to sleep on the sofas. Most importantly he is very good with our cats and has been found asleep on his bed with one of them.

Please let Helen know his fur is starting to grow and I hope that one day I will be able to send her a photo of his hairy tail! His weight is also going up and he now weighs 25.2 kg – in fact we think that one more kilo will be about right for him. He is a dear little gentleman and as soon as that tail grows we will send you a full body photo to go alongside that sad emaciated photo that won our hearts over.

2nd UPDATE FROM ALFIE’S FOREVER HOME (August 2012)

Alfie is a gorgeous and lovely dog and we would like to thank all of the team at IRR for making it possible for him to be part of our family. I have sent a photo of him with his best friend and cousin Darcy, the Goldendoodle, as well as one of him relaxing in his garden. We are so pleased that he was able to trust humans again and that now life is good for him.

Next week, Alfie will be three and we will be celebrating his birthday.

We thank you for all your tireless work and send a huge tail wag and kiss from Alfie.

Kind regards

Leonie, Alfie and the rest of the Peacock family

UPDATE FROM ALFIE’S FOREVER HOME (OCTOBER 2012)

Our boy is great. He still won’t jump into the car boot but now climbs stairs, crosses bridges and loves swimming behind the kayak in the sea.

We’ve been away all summer and for the last 2 weekends. He just loves the beach!”
