Alfie

ALFIE’S HISTORY

Alfie is 10 months old and was surrendered by his broken hearted family due to a change in their circumstances.

Fosterer’s report – Ireland: June 2012

Alfie travels well in the car although he hates getting in and out of it.

He loves children and other dogs and he’s housetrained.

He is a very strong dog, though he usually walks well on the lead once he settles down. His recall is good unless there’s something more interesting around.

Fosterer’s first report – UK: June 2012

Alfie is like a big cuddly teddy bear. Although a little timid to begin with, he is loving and playful and has settled really well (personally I think he’s adorable).

He is fine with other dogs and enjoys playing with my goldie. Occasionally he barks at people passing by (or things he sees move that he’s unsure of, like the neighbours union jack flag). He has not met a cat yet, so I can’t comment on how well he would get on with cats.

Alfie is house trained, he has no food issues and he prefers to graze rather than eat in one go.

He loves his toys especially his ball, but is just as happy to let me or my dog play with them.

Alfie has met children whilst out and about and he is very friendly (warning to any child not wanting a dog wash!).

Alfie’s lead training has only just begun so he does pull and he can be strong, but he will settle and walk very well on the lead once he gets into the walk. He just needs a little more training.

He is also content to spend a couple of hours at home as he has my dog for company. However, at the moment as he’s a young dog who enjoys company, I think it wouldn’t be fair to leave him on his own for long periods of time.

Fosterer’s second report – UK: June 2012

Alfie has settled in really well, he is a very loving dog who enjoys the company of people and dogs. He is content around children and a happy go lucky chap whilst out and about – even when in the vets waiting room!

He can get a little excited when he sees other dogs whilst out and can pull on the lead. His basic lead training is underway but he will need this to continue in his new home.

We took him out to a busy horse event with lots of sights, sounds and other dogs and horses galloping past. Apart from the initial pulling he settled into walking and was very well behaved for a young dog.

Alfie is house trained and can be left for short periods of time if he has toys to play with, remembering he is still a puppy, so he does really well.
We haven’t had any problems with Alfie around food, or basic manners and understanding commands, but he can and will check out the kitchen work surface, although he hasn’t stolen anything yet!

After the initial reluctance to get into a car, he is now a dab-hand and enjoys going places.

Alfie doesn’t go upstairs (his choice), he has attempted it a couple of times and flattened himself to the floor after the first 3 steps before cautiously reversing back down again! I think he just doesn’t know what they are.

The only thing left to say about Alfie is he has a lot of love to give and would make a fantastic family dog. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him.

A gorgeous boy!

July 2012 – Alfie has gone to his Forever Home

February 2013

Alfie is now approximately 18 months old and was surrendered to IRR through no fault of his own.

Fosterer’s 1st report – UK: 21st February 2013

Alfie is house trained; he has had some basic training though his recall needs work. He walks well using a halti type head harness.

He is happy to be left for periods of time with another dog for company. But he becomes sad (whines) when left on his own. Alfie is friendly with people and other animals, except cats. Alfie does NOT like cats.

Although Alfie travels well and is not car sick he is reluctant to get into the car, so he will need someone to be patient with him and help him to build up some confidence with this.

Alfie is currently being treated for an ear infection in both ears. Otherwise he is in good general health and has a healthy appetite. He is a very playful, boisterous and happy 18month old adolescent dog!

Fosterer’s 2nd report: 22nd February 2013

Alfie has been with me for 10 days now, he has settled in really well. Alfie likes to play and will happily bring the ball to play fetch.

A home either with children or another dog to play with would be ideal for this boy, he just wants to have fun and play. He’s only a baby and is enjoying life.

He is good with children, but he does like to play and can sometimes snatch the toys, so not best suited in a home with very young children.

March 2013

Alfie has gone to live in his Forever Home with Artur and Dorata.
