LIFE CAN BE SO CRUEL (4.12.2017)

The girls found their perfect forever home but, sadly, fate was soon to lend a very cruel hand.

Amber’s new Mum, Sally, told us “We met Amber (then known as Linda) on a Saturday morning in September. She and Bella were just delightful and seemed to immediately get on well with Rosie. I got them into the boot of the car ready to return to Cornwall and said “goodbye” to Diane (their fosterer). I turned back to the car to get in the passenger seat – only to find the two of them already sat there, having climbed over from the back!

They travelled well all the way back to Cornwall and settled in at home immediately, enjoying (amongst other things) a trip to Trebah Gardens and beach.

Soon after her arrival, we noticed that Amber seemed to be really struggling with mobility. A visit to our friendly vet confirmed that she had bad arthritis and the ligaments in her knees were not good. With judicious use of medication to lubricate and to ease her pain, she carried on gamely, but, clearly, her lameness was going to escalate quite quickly. The third picture shows her in the footwell of the car. I’d just returned from taking Rosie and Bella to the beach. Amber came out to greet us and managed to clamber into the car – she sat there looking so pleased with herself.

By early December, her back end had lost all power (except for her tail which remained emphatically active to the end) and we had no choice but to have her put to sleep. She had been part of our family for such a short time but we miss her dreadfully. She had the waggiest tail (up and down and side to side!) that we have ever seen on a Golden Retriever and the gentlest of natures. Rest in peace Amber.

AMBER (was Linda) and BELLA

Linda and Bella are beautiful purebred Golden Retrievers who were surrendered together due to a change in circumstances. They have no medical issues other than Linda having some arthritis.

Neither dog is spayed, their last season being at the beginning of 2017.  As they are English dogs, they were not required to have Pet Passports

We have been told, they are both well trained and were brought up with children. They are good with other dogs, but have never really had much to do with any cats.

BELLA and LINDA’S DREAM HOME

Most importantly, these gorgeous girls should be rehomed together as, despite the age gap, they are devoted to one another. They are as near perfect as a pair could be and now just need a perfect forever home to put the icing back on their cakes.

LINDA (now Amber)

Linda is a lovely 10 year old, mid golden, purebred Golden Retriever.

PERSONALITY

Linda is a very calm and laid back, very friendly and gentle loving dog. She is confident, alert and inquisitive, playful and happy. She has been no problem at all

She adores her “sister” Bella and they are never far away from each other, either lying together or having a gentle “rough and tumble” game.

HEALTH

Linda is in good health apart from having  a very, very slight limp after lying down for a period of time. This soon wears off but I am keeping a watch on this and, should there be any problems in the near future, I will consult my vet.

SOCIAL LEARNING

TRAVEL: She is happy and content travelling in a vehicle

HOUSETRAINING: Linda is house trained

BASIC TRAINING: She is well socialized and is trained in basic commands

RESOURCE GUARDING: Linda shows no evidence of resource guarding

SEPARATION ANXIETY She shows no signs of separation anxiety but we have never left the house leaving the dogs alone

LEADWALKING:  Linda walks on a normal collar and lead, is perfect to walk and enjoys her walks. She also walks `loose lead’ with a slip lead and a body harness

ADULTS and CHILDREN: She is very friendly with adults and children

DOGS: She is very friendly with other dogs

CATS: Bella has not been tested with cats
