Appeal for Crochet Blankets and Squares

IRR like to send foster dogs to their new home with their very own knitted blanket.

We need more blankets and are appealing for donations of either blankets or squares, and the lovely members of the Scotch Farm stitching group have offered to sew squares together to make up blankets.

So if you can manage to knit or crochet some squares but struggling to either sew them together or knit enough to make a whole blanket you can pop what you have in an envelope and contact us through our Facebook page to get the address to send them to.

Squares need to be 6” square and it doesn’t matter what stitch or yarn.

To help you, here is an easy to follow method to make sure your knitting will be square.

Method

  • Cast on 2 stitches,
  • next row increase in both stitches,
  • continue knitting increasing once at the end of each row until the work measures 6 inches along one of the sides.
  • On the next row decrease one stitch at each end and continue decreasing at each end of every row until 2 stitches left.
  • Cast off.

You should have a 6-inch square. Any yarn will do as long as you use a roughly appropriate sized needle so if you have some Aran or chunky yarn then squares knit up quite quickly.
