GOODBYE TO A LOVELY OLD GUY (7.7.2015)

It is with great sadness that John told us of the loss of his beloved Bobby after 5 wonderful years together. They said “goodbye” on 7th July and John is missing his old friend terribly.

Walk with the angels now, Bobby, and rest in peace, dear sweet boy.

BOBBY’S HISTORY

We originally believed Bob to be a 12 year old Golden Retriever although, it was possible he was only really 9 or 10 years old. He was taken to the vets to be put to sleep because his elderly owner couldn’t walk him any longer and, apparently, he demanded to go for a walk at 4pm every day.

Fortunately, Sandie had a phone call about him from a kind lady who works in the vets and we were able to save him.

He had lived outside in a shed with a run all his life, poor soul, but he was supposed to be house trained. He is a very affectionate loving dog who appears very fit and healthy for his age. Apparently, he hates fireworks.

He came to the UK on 13th March 2010 and went into foster with Jane in Worcestershire.

FIRST REPORT FROM JANE

Jane says “Just to let you know Bob has arrived safe and sound. He seems like a lovely boy but is obviously unsettled and we have been up since the crack of dawn with him !!!!! He is very smelly and matted so it looks like a bath and brush up is required at some stage when I wake up !!!!!

He appears to be ok with Tess (Lab) and Harvey (GR) and is quite spritely for his years.

He was mesmorised by the chickens. He is supposed to pull on the lead but didn’t today “

Bob cannot, under any circumstances, be rehomed in a household where cats are present.

BOB IS NOW IN BRISTOL

Peace and harmony once again reigns in Jane and Malcolm’s house………the dogs (Tess & Harvey) & Poppy the cat are chilling and Billy, the other cat, has his bell back on !!!!!!!!! Bob,meanwhile, is getting his paws well and truly under Lynn’s table in Bristol.

His slight obsession with men continues and he was unhappy to see first Malcolm go and leave him quickly followed by Lynne’s husband and son disappearing but, after, barking his disapproval for a while, he decided that investigating his new pad was probably a better idea and now he appears to be quite relaxed.

He does have a wee bit too much interest in Holly at the moment but, at 12yrs old, we definitely won’t be putting him through the trauma of a castration. Fortunately, spritely as he is, the babygate is enough of a deterrent for him and he has little interest in the 3 younger females who he probably thinks would be a bit too much for him.

TWO DAYS ON

Lynn who is now fostering him says he is being a really good boy. He is madly in love with Holly (we think this may be because of emitting an odour because of her recent op) and he is a bit interested in the other 3 girls but, apart from that, he has been no trouble at all. It seems as though it is just cats that he dislikes with a passion!!!!!!!!!

Despite living outdoors for 12 yrs, he is housetrained and he walks really well on a lead. He seems to be less man obsessed than he was and is very happy now to have a lady looking after him.

MAY UPDATE

Lynn says “Bob is more like an 8yr old than a 12yr old. The only giveaway is that he can be a bit stiff when getting up but otherwise he is very fit. He sometimes gets the devil in him and would chase sheep, cows and horses, as well as cats, if given half a chance but he appears to love birds and regularly helps with the care of the pigeons even being known to very gently lick one.

He has got on well with most other dogs that have come into the home and played for days with a young male Golden Retriever who came to stay for a week but one older, very quiet and inoffensive female was not to his liking so he growled at her. Fortunately, he is a good boy and will respond to “no Bobby” when needed.”

BOB IN HIS NEW HOME

Bob has now moved in with John in Bristol. Bob has quickly changed allegiance from ladies back to men and seems to totally adore John. Despite both being in their Autumn years, they are enjoying lots of very long walks together and they seem to be really happy in each other’s company.
