Brodie’s mum, Katherine, said:
“My darling IRR boy, Brodie, was put to sleep on 23rd February, aged nearly 12 years. He had an inoperable tumour on his liver/gall bladder, which at first was thought to pancreatitis.
He has been my beloved companion since adopting him in 2014, particularly after my husband died of stomach cancer 18 months ago.
To describe my sweet boy, I need to use a wealth of contradictory words. He was certainly a one off. A Jekyll and Hyde. He refused to come back when he was urged on by his nose. He gave me grey hairs, when he disappeared into undergrowth, until I bought a tracker. He followed the scent of deer and badgers, foxes and food. He ended up at cafes, restaurants and the local wedding venue. He simply couldn’t resist following the smell of food. He was most independent (outside), by my side, always nearby (inside). He was loving, maddening, cheeky, intelligent, lively, calm, stubborn and very, very greedy. A genius for finding food.
I have a kaleidoscope of vivid, wonderful memories and photos of Brodie but at present, they are painful and I feel heartbroken, with a huge black hole, where Brodie should be.”
