Byron Ashwood

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

BRIP IRR Byron aged 14 years 6 months – 10 February 2025

Byron’s dad said, “I’m afraid today’s news isn’t good. After a few weeks of struggles Byron slipped peacefully and beautifully asleep with the help of Vets2Home Peaceful Goodbyes. I’ve never seen such a gentle experience. The last few weeks have been a challenge with Byron having IMHA a condition where the immune system attacks its own red blood cells. After initially improving and fighting with all he had, last night his breathing started to struggle and we could not see this continue. For those that know the story you will know what a special case this was and as ever Katherine and Lorraine came to his rescue with an urgent appeal. My mother bidded on beautiful blanket made by the lovely Jane Bull unbeknowing he would eventually come to her. It was a match made in heaven. She is heartbroken and is now without a retriever for the first time in 19 years. Interestingly once Byron had passed little Pippy (the 15 year old Yorkie) guarded his body and wouldn’t let anyone near him not even us for two hours. Eventually she licked his face and walked away…. I guess signifying it is done and so it is. The end of an era today.”
