Carly Harris

CARLY BROUGHT US SO MUCH JOY AND LOVE (24.4.2018 )

On Saturday, 28 April 2018, Sue wrote to tell us “I am just updating you on Carly who Steve and I adopted in 2007.  Unfortunately, her heart was letting her down and she passed over the Bridge last Tuesday 24th April.

She had gradually gone down hill over the last few months.  When we took her to the vets on the Friday before, we were told that her heart was failing and we did not want her to suffer.

She has left a massive hole in our lives and we all miss her so much. She brought much joy and love to us from day one.

We have a 20 month old Flat Coat Retriever to keep our mood up but she is rather quiet so we think she is missing her friend as well.

I am pleased to say that Carly came home this Tuesday and is now at rest with Sasha.    Thankyou so much to you all at IRR for our lovely girl”.

Pauline remembers “It’s really hard to believe it was 11yrs ago when a young Carly went to live with Sue and Steve.

She was such a little darling probably because her mum, Crystal, had the most wonderful temperament despite, clearly, having had a very hard life before she was rescued. I also remember Carly’s new friend Sasha who helped Carly to settle in the early days and, no doubt, helped her to sort out her slightly dodgy relationship with the cats.

It’s so sad that our dogs don’t have much longer lives. Our thoughts are with Sue and the family who miss her terribly and are feeling totally distraught, heartbroken and lost without her. We hope they can cling on to the thought that Carly had a wonderfully happy life with them whereas, being so beautiful and still very young when rescued, she could so easily have fallen into the wrong hands, been harshly treated and been used over and over as a breeding bitch which really doesn’t bear thinking about.

Hopefully, it is also of comfort to think of Carly reunited at Rainbow Bridge now with her best friend and mentor, Sasha, and with her lovely mum who, sadly, went to The Bridge in 2015.    We would like to thank Sue and Steve for loving Carly to bits for those eleven wonderful years and for giving our special little girl the very best life she could have possibly had.

Fly high with all the other golden dog angels, Carly”. HISTORY Carly was only about 6mths old when she was found straying with her mum, Crystal. Despite every attempt to find their owners during their 2 week foster in Ireland, nobody ever came forward to claim them. Although Carly was in generally good condition, her mum, Crystal, was in a very poor state and is still being nursed back to health by Val and Andy. Carly was fostered by Nicola and family in Somerset and proved to be a delightful little girl who adored the children and all the other dogs.

Report from her new home:- Carly has got used to Henry (the cat) although Blue (the other cat) has been staying away and only come back for her dinner. She is also getting along well with Sacha (rescue golden retriever).

    UPDATE on CARLY

Carly is settling in fine and is just coming to the end of her first 6 week training course and has just passed her bronze recall.  We will then be starting the next course with her in August. She is a little angel.

Given half a chance, she would still like to roam. She likes to check to see if the gate is open so that she can go. Also, hasten to say, we have not let her off of her lead but have a long piece of rope so that she can have a bit of a run.

She has been excellent in the house and we only had a few puddles when we first had her. Since then she had been really good although she likes to get up on the settee and the bed (which she is not allowed to do).

She is getting on really well with Sasha and we have had no problems at all with them getting along together. Henry also takes no notice of her.  Blue has now decided that she does not mind her (or maybe the other way around) and they can now be in the same room together (although Carly will chase her if she moves too fast).

UPDATE 2008

Carly, now 2yrs, has grown into a beautiful Golden Retriever. It’s hard to believe she was less than one yr old when she was found, in a dreadful condition, as a stray with her mum, Crystal, in Ireland. She had been quite naughty with the cats to begin with but now lives very happily with 2 of them. She also has an older Golden Retriever friend to play with at Sue and her family’s home in Somerset.

Carly has been doing really well in her training classes and has both her Bronze and Silver certificates but Sue says “she still has a deaf ear when off lead!!!”
