Cassie
CASSIE and BOJANGLES
Cassie and Bojangles are spayed female Golden Retrievers, both aged 10yrs. Cassie is the darker in colour of the two. As is normal, they have been vet checked and have had the rabies vaccinations necessary to obtain their Pet Passports.
Having travelled to the UK, they have been in foster with David and Alison and their two Golden Retriever girls.
BRILLIANT NEWS (APRIL 2019)
The girls have waited patiently for a long time for their forever people to come along but Cassie and Bojangles have now found their perfect forever home
PREVIOUS UPDATE (16.12.2018)
David says “These two are little poppets and really deserve a lovely home of their own. They will make great companions in a quietish household with someone who just wants a 30/45 minute walk a day”.
PERSONALITIES
Cassie is more reserved but is becoming more confident and trusting. Bojangles loves the company of people more than Cassie but she will come to be fussed now. Both like to be around us more and up for more excitement in life.
Bojangles is the more outgoing of the pair and happily plays bitey face with Daisy but, nowadays, both are game for most things.
HEALTH
Originally, David affectionately described them as a pair of Teletubbies but both dogs have lost between 2 to 3 kgs each and are much healthier and fitter. Bojangles is on Metacam for a limp that becomes more noticeable after exercise. Basic cold cream on their feet once/twice a week and road work is keeping on top of Hyperkeratosis.
SOCIAL LEARNING
Cassie and Bojangles are super house dogs. They are quite happy to be left together for reasonable lengths of time. They settle around the house well, sleep all night and are very clean.
They are happy with 45 minute walks but do pull a bit on their leads now they have become more excited about going for a walk.
They have had 2 short breaks with us away from home recently and both coped very well in unfamiliar surroundings. They have been exemplary in the car and thoroughly enjoyed the new walks and new routines.
They are both really good with other dogs having lived with another until she died earlier this year but both do show hunting instincts when confronted with a hen or a sheep or a squirrel so a cat free home would probably be best for them.
HISTORY
They were surrendered as they were starting to find the children too much to cope with so IRR will be seeking a nice, quiet home without children for them.

CASSIE
PERSONALITY
Shortly after arrival, Cassie tended to take herself off to a quiet corner during the day and gave the appearance of being timid and wary of people but we noticed she wanted to be the boss of Bojangles with boisterous play when excited. We think this must be a long term behaviour as she stops on command and goes and lies down in a corner (as though she has been punished for this behaviour in the past).
A few days on, Cassie is learning to trust people and is becoming less withdrawn and timid. She now joins in the household routines more positively rather than watching from the side-lines. She likes a nice quiet life so she couldn’t cope in a noisy house with children.
It is still early days but Cassie is, slowly, learning to trust. She no longer jumps up and moves as you approach as long as you reassure her.
HEALTH
For her age, Cassie seems to be in good health but, on arrival, she was very overweight at 29.9kg. In just 10 days, Cassie has already lost 0.8kg .
She has hyperkeratosis of the feet which we believe is causing her some discomfort and we think this may have been the reason for her grumpiness and distrust when she first came.
We are rubbing her pads with aqueous cream twice a day and have trimmed where we can.
SOCIAL LEARNING
TRAVEL: She is very happy to jump in the car and is content when travelling.
HOUSETRAINING: She is fully housetrained
BASIC TRAINING: Cassie has good general household manners. Like Bojo, she is a good guard dog but she does understand the command ‘enough’ and, after only a few days, she is, already, learning who is allowed past the house and who needs warning off!
She understands quite a few commands (sit, down, come). We are, mostly, working on trust at present.
LEADWALKING: Cassie walks quite well on a slip lead and on a harness.
We only did a very short walk to start with due to her foot problems but she was happy to go out on her harness and set off at a trot. (We noticed she was more inclined to bully play with Bojangles after a walk when she was excited).
She is, now, enjoying going for 20-30 minute walks on lead. She pulls with excitement on the way out but walks loose lead on the way home.
RESOURCE GUARDING: Cassie shows no real signs of resource guarding but, of course, it is always wise to keep food bowls well apart.
SEPARATION ANXIETY: She shows no signs of separation anxiety and is used to being left to settle in the house. She is happy to be left with her sister for reasonable lengths of time.
ADULTS: Cassie is becoming more trusting and has even made friends with young adults that were visiting.
CHILDREN: She is not suitable for children
DOGS: She is good with other dogs
CATS: Cassie is untested with cats.
BOJANGLE’S AND CASSIE’S DREAM HOME
Bojangles and Cassie would love to live in a quiet, adult household and they would be quite happy being with someone who just wants a 30 minute walk around the block.
Bojangles would probably settle in straight away but Cassie would need a little more patience and understanding whilst her adopters gain her trust.
They can be left together happily for reasonable lengths of time but it would be wonderful if their forever adopter had as much time as possible to spend with them.
It could be just the two of them or the girls sharing with another similarly aged resident dog but cats (or hens) are best avoided.
For sure, these two lovely girls will make great companions for the lucky people who can fulfill their wish lists.
