Cooper

Cooper is an overweight, neutered male Golden Retriever. This lovely boy has been groomed and has received his inoculations to travel to the UK.

HISTORY

Cooper was a stray who was not reclaimed from Monaghan Pound.

PERSONALITY
Cooper is a delightful, typical Golden Retriever. He is a gentle giant of a goodie and is remarkably calm and laid back about everything he has come into contact with. He is incredibly friendly and endearing and has a constantly wagging tail! His fosterer, Louise, says “he is a very, very gorgeous boy, both in looks and temperament! He’s friendly, affectionate, loves attention but doesn’t demand it. His only fault is he does have a stubborn side and will sit or lie down and refuse to move and ignore all attempts to entice or distract him. As he is such a big boy, it takes a strong person to physically move him if he chooses he’s happy doing something you don’t want him to be doing! Despite that, he is so adorable it is extremely difficult to resist his charms”

HEALTH
He seems to be really healthy. There are no apparent or obvious problems. He is overweight 38.7 kg so he will need to lose some weight but this doesn’t seem to bother him and he is actually quite agile and athletic and always eager to go out for a walk. He does pant a lot (when he isn’t in distress/anxious/over exerting himself or hot) which is probaly related to his excess weight and we believe this will lessen as he does!

SOCIAL LEARNING
Leadwalking: He walks well on a lead and harness but is very, very strong. If he veers from the path you want to take, he returns to heel quickly when corrected.

Basic commands: He understands basic commands and he may well know more things once is fosterer finds the words or signals he associates with the action. He can retrieve, plays well and rarely has got over excited or nervous. He’s taken everything in his stride!

Normal household sounds and activities don’t bother him at all. He does occasionally jump when there is a sudden noise or the sound of something moving or scraping but he settles down again quickly.

Children: Cooper is good with children

Dogs: He is fantastic with other dogs, both male and female, young and old, neutered and unneutered. He did bark once at a Staffie but several dogs he was with did too so he seemed to simply be joining in with ‘pack’ behaviour.

He’s well socialised and has been joining in with everything ‘doggy’ at his fosterer’s home. He has gone on pack walks, in cafes, to fields and the beach. The only way he is different to the other dogs is being on lead or long line. Other animals: He is good with cats, chickens, small furries, livestock and any wild life we’ve come across.

DREAM HOME
As with so many of these abandoned Golden Retrievers, all Cooper needs is somewhere to call his own where his family will be kind and loving to him and will give him the happy life he deserves. In return, he will be a wonderful addition to the family.

MAY 2016

Cooper has gone to live in his Forever Home.
