Daisy Atfield
THE KIDS ARE GROWING UP NOW
Like her Mum and siblings, Daisy is a prize winner even though she was a bit young to appreciate her first one.
DAISY IS BECOMING A MATURE YOUNG LADY
HISTORY OF A MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
SHE WAS ANOTHER PRETTY LITTLE DAUGHTER
Daisy was the second puppy of our Magnificent Seven to be born. She was one of four girls (Poppy, Rose and Honey) and three boys (Briar, Bramble and Shamrock) born to Lily on 13th and 14th June 2015
She was destined to be living in Wiltshire with her big sister Molly, their lovely Mum, Denise, and her daughter.
Daisy went off happily to her new home on 6.8.2015.
FIRST NEWS FROM HER FOREVER HOME
Denise says ” It’s going pretty well. Daisy is gorgeous and so funny. Molly has been good with Daisy and she has even played with her a couple of times which is amazing because Molly has never played with any dog ever!
She has been sleeping in my daughters room at night. Toilet training is going ok, she does most of it in the garden and can go for around 8 hours at night without having a wee. Daisy cried and howled in the crate so we stopped using it but we’ve started again, feeding her in it and putting her bed and toys in it. She slept in it last night with the door open so hopefully she’ll get to like it more. I have already taken her in to work and she slept under my desk all morning.
She had a bit of a tantrum when I tried to stop her chewing Molly’s bed but now we are swapping as advised. Each time she takes something we don’t want her to have, we exchange it for her toy and give her a treat for being a good girl.
I’m looking forward to being able to take her out for a walk. We have the last lot of injections next weekend and we are going to Devon soon by which time she will be able to do short walks”.
Denise also intends to look into clicker training which will be of great benefit.
UPDATE 1.9.2015
Denise tells us “We had a great holiday, despite the rain, and Daisy met about 100 people on Woolacombe beach plus loads of dogs. It was really good for her socialisation. She has met horses, loads of different kinds of people and lots of small children and she has been to the beach and to the river.
Daisy is doing a lot better now. She does most of her toileting outside apart from the odd accident so we are really pleased about that. With regard to her possessiveness around stolen items this is still a work in progress but we have been working on making her bottom of the pack by not allowing her upstairs or on the sofa, she has to go through doorways last and she gets fed last. She is now sleeping alone downstairs in her crate. She doesn’t follow me around quite so much now which I think this is because she is sleeping in the crate and she realises being alone is ok.
I noticed her worst behaviour was early evening while I am cooking dinner so I now crate her while we eat dinner. I have also found giving her time out in the hallway works if she is being too OTT. She was trying to assert authority over Molly but luckily Molly was having none of it so that’s good. She now follows Molly everywhere on walks and seems to idolise her.
Yesterday Daisy won 3rd prize in the prettiest bitch category in the Easterton County Fair so that was great. She is very bright and has learned sit, paw, down, no (this is a work in progress) and off. I am teaching her to focus on me rather than distractions and have some tasty treats that she loves. She sits in a very regal way and lots of people have commented on how well she sits down without fussing.
I am back at work tomorrow so this is the next chapter in her life. I’ve got another crate I’m going to use at work, there are only 6 of us in the whole place, with 4 of us in one office so it isn’t too hectic but I will make sure they don’t get her all wound up. I was going to take her in for half days to start with as she usually sleeps until lunchtime, then my son can look after her in the afternoons.
She starts puppy classes on Thursday. I’ll let you know how they go. She got really manic at the socialisation group and terrified the tiny puppies. I was told she is very wilful! or maybe she is just very bright”
