Finbar Berry
Good News UPDATE (26.5.2023)
Where do all the years go? Here we are almost 8 years on.
Dave said, “It is such sad news about Duke. I fell in love with him and wanted to adopt him but Phil, not unexpectedly, beat me to it. At least, we were able to make a donation towards his medical care. We are thinking of Phil and Julie. Please wish them all the best.
Another shocker was Big Bob. He really was a big blighter but with a lovely nature. He and Fin got on really well together but, sadly, he was far too big for us. I have attached one of my favorite pictures of Fin using Bob’s bottom as a pillow.
We were wondering what happened to the other fella we fostered? Scooter went from us to people who, apparently, returned him to IRR and I believe he ended up in Scotland. Although he had some serious issues, he got on well with Fin and really bonded with me. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish we had adopted him.
Fin is still doing great and he is always the centre of attention with our local doggie community. A friend of ours is a professional photographer and she did a marvellous head shot of Fin last year, I have attached a copy and although Fin is not a full Goldie, I thought that IRR might be able to use the picture in advertising.
We may be in touch with IRR shortly with a view to taking up fostering again but a dog just a little smaller than Big Bob please”.
FOREVER HOME UPDATE (July 2015)
Dave said “It is now 6 months since Fin’s adoption.
On Saturday 11th July, Fin was one year old so his present was to have his family unplanning operation last Monday. I am sure he might have preferred a different present!
We thought it was time for Fin to become a soprano as he had been developing a considerable interest in the opposite sex. Anyway, he is recovering well but is frustrated that he cannot play with his many doggy friends as he has to be walked on the lead for a week or so.
Fin is now a very confident individual who is not dominant by nature so he can run and play fight with almost any dog he meets. One of his best mates is a three year old Akita. We were somewhat nervous when they first met but Fin went up to him and they had a sniffing party and have never looked back. He met a Bernese Mountain Dog this morning and, despite the vast difference in size and weight, they got on famously. I have been told that seems to be something all the siblings have in common. They all seem very relaxed in the company of other dogs.
We still have a problem with Fin going in the car. We have tried all the potential solutions with no success so, I guess, we are just going to have to give it whatever time it takes”.
HISTORY
Finbar was about 6 months old when he came to the UK. His mother is a Golden Retriever and his father is a Collie.
Finbar hates having his picture taken so getting him to sit still for a few minutes was a major ask. Wow, he is full of energy but he is so loving and inquisitive.
One of Finbar’s sisters, Clover, is already happily settled in her forever home as is his brother Josh who he was soon going to be meeting up with at Gizzie’s Get-Together..
January 2015
Finbar went to his forever home in Herefordshire with Chris and Dave.
