Finn
FINBAR (derived from Fionnbharr, an old Irish word, meaning “fair-headed one”) is a crossbreed, possibly Golden Retriever x English Setter who was about 8 months old when he was found wandering the streets in Ireland. He was then neutered.
Finbar went to be fostered in Manchester after being picked up from the transport by Maria at silly o’clock. She totally fell in love with this handsome, loveable little chap and it was Maria who came to his rescue when he found himself homeless again through no fault of his own. Her dogs, one of whom is himself an IRR rescue, quickly helped the terrified little chap to settle and join in their games.
Finn has now been checked out thoroughly by the vet who says he is 25% underweight so Maria is gradually building him back up to his former beauty and the results are beginning to show already. Everyone adored this happy little chap at the vets. In fact, so much so that he has now been offered a wonderful forever home.
His recall is very good and all he wants in life is to please so he is an easy dog to train. He appears to have never been walked on a lead and is terrified of traffic but this is being gently addressed with training and appropriate flower essences so it shouldn’t be a major problem. He is a very sweet, gentle dog and, hopefully, now, he will have the wonderful life he deserves.
NINE DAYS ON
Nine days on, Finn is very relaxed and is gaining in confidence, with Maria’s TLC, the reassurance from her lovely dogs and the flower essences that he is being given. We are delighted that he has already gained 0.7kg in weight. He has spent a very happy day out with his prospective adopter who is, of course, fully aware of his history and is looking forward to the time when he can go to his forever home permanently.
FINN AND JASPER
Finn with Jasper, partners in crime, poor Henry doesn’t get a look in, although he doesn’t mind – he is pleased for the peace and quiet!
FINN’S WEIGHT GAIN
Finn has weighed in today at 22.5 kgs so he has gained 1½ kgs in 2 weeks. He is also running much faster as he can keep up with J&H now 🙂

THE START OF FINN’S NEW LIFE – 24 AUGUST
Maria says “Finn weighed in this morning at 23.2 kgs so he is getting close to his recommended weight of 25 kgs.
It was a difficult morning with mixed emotions – sad that Finn was leaving us today but happy in the knowledge that he was off to his very loving forever home.
The photos are of Finn this morning with Jasper and Henry and me, and one of him in his new car. As you can see by the smile on his face he was very happy to be driving off on his new adventure with promises that he would come to visit and we could visit him anytime too.

We will have an update of how he is getting on in a couple of weeks time.”
FINN IN HIS FOREVER HOME
Maria says. “We visited Finn this morning in his forever home and it was lovely to see him. Our first impressions were that he looked so happy and healthy, a far cry from when we collected him from his ‘home’ in Manchester. His coat was much thicker and well groomed, he had gained weight and also grown a little taller.
Finn has really fallen on his feet and is a much loved member of the family. He has a beautiful large field all of his own to play in right next door to the horses paddock and he has also taken to the horse, he walks up to the fence and they rub noses, it is very cute to see! He retrieves his toys and as you can see from the photos above he waits to have his feet wiped before going into the house – he is a little star.
Gill (his new Mum) says that Finn has settled in really well, he is the most gentle loving dog that they have come across, he has no bad habits, is very clean and generally wants to please. She says he is a very happy dog and when any of the family come home he gives them a big smile. He is no longer afraid of traffic, and is now more confident around men and strangers in general. He was taken to the vet surgery (where Gill works) and weighed in at his target weight, everyone was very pleased to see him and also pleased with his progress. Gill (like Martin and I) are at a loss as to how a beautiful natured dog like Finn found himself homeless on two occasions??
He loves nothing more than to cuddle up on the sofa in the evening with the family, (apart from playing and eating that is).
We left Finn knowing he was in the best home ever and we will take Jasper and Henry over to see him in a week or two so that they can get together and play in that big field of Finn’s.”
LOOK AT ME NOW!!!!!!
Maria, who fostered him, says, ” Finn came here last night (18.2.2009) until the weekend while his new Mum and Dad go away for a few days. He is now 30kgs in weight and as tall as Jasper (you can see from the photos) and he is still as beautiful as ever!”
