Finn
Finn is an 8 year old small female Golden Retriever who was fostered by Simon and his family in the West Midlands. She arrived in the UK with her half-sister, Tara.
INITIAL REPORT
Simon said. “Finn is a very nervous dog and when I take her for a walk I have to constantly reassure her. There’s been occasions where she has just stopped and refused to go any further. I then have to turn around and head back the way we’ve come. However, she is easy to walk and will only pull on her lead when we first leave the house.
Around the home she’s very good and is fully house trained. She’s made no attempt to get on the furniture or go upstairs. She is still quite nervous and timid and will shy away when we go to pet her, The good news is we are slowly seeing an improvement and she is gaining in confidence. She sleeps downstairs with our other dogs and we have not had any problems overnight. She has also been superb around our children and we have no concerns about her being around our three year old son.
Finn can be quite vocal at mealtimes and also likes to let everyone know that she’s in residence by standing at the side gate and barking at anyone who happens to pass.
All in all Finn is a lovely good natured dog who needs someone with lots of love and patience to rebuild her confidence.”
UPDATE 2/01/2011
Finn has now been with us for three weeks and has settled in nicely. We’re now seeing Finn’s true character and I’m pleased to report that she is a very affectionate, loyal girl and with the right family will overcome her timidness.
Around our home Finn has become very relaxed and enjoys the company of our other dogs and on occasion will play with Freddie, our male GR. She shows no desire to get on the sofa or make any attempt to get up the stairs. We’ve had no issues with her being left when we go out and she is also quite happy to sleep downstairs with our dogs.
Finn adores human company and is desperate to please and receive affection. She is superb around our three children and we would have no concerns with her going to a forever home with younger children. Her temperament would make her ideal for a family environment as she is a gentle girl.
She’s very good on the lead and the majority of the time does not pull and when she does it’s not excessive. However, she is still nervous when out walking especially if she hasn’t been on the route before, she can become quite hesitant but with a bit of reassurance this can be overcome. She’s been very friendly towards all the humans and dogs she’s met on our walks.
Finn is fully house trained and we’ve had no accidents in the house. She does like to bark at our neighbours but this is because she can see them through our side entrance and she also barked for a day or two at our Christmas tree lights that I put in the back garden. However, she doesn’t bother to bark when in the house even when we have the post delivered but she will give a hurry bark when I’m preparing her tea.
FINN GOES TO HER FOREVER HOME – 11/02/2011
Simon said. “I’m pleased to say that Finn has found a wonderful forever home living with Mrs Haycock. I can’t imagine a better home for Finn and we’re pleased for both of them as we feel it is the perfect match.
We wish both Finn and Mrs Haycock many years of happiness and hope that from time to time Mrs H will let us know how Finn is progressing.”
