FOXY IS AT PEACE (28.11.2014)

Joan, her fosterer, told us “We have just received the news we were dreading.  We are so sad here as we were very fond of Foxy and loved having her to stay with Josh and on her own after we lost him. Foxy had a wonderful home with Julia, Dave and the boys and in return she adored them all.

A heartbroken Julia said “Foxy is with Josh now. We wanted her to go with some dignity. The vets came to the house this afternoon, so she is at peace now. Dave and I are, obviously, devastated as she was a huge part of our life ….the house seems so quiet without her”.

HISTORY

Foxy is an adorable, pretty little thing. She is a golden-cross and has got a very sweet nature and is excellent with people – she loves a cuddle and a stroke. She is approx 7 years old, 50 cm high and has been spayed, microchipped and is housetrained.

Foxy was very dirty and matted when she arrived, but, after a wash and plenty of brushes, she is now looking much better and will be stunning once she has been professionally groomed. She has beautiful, piercing amber eyes and wags her tail all the time.

She is energetic (we think there is some Collie in her) and requires three/four good walks each day. We are teaching her to walk calmly at the moment as she is a bit over enthusiastic and pulls on the lead, but she is learning quite quickly and loves the attention. She is a bit bouncy but soon settles.

She is very wary of other dogs (possibly due to being a stray) so we have kept her close at all times. We would suggest she needs a home with no other animals and a family that can give her the walks and attention she needs.

Foxy sleeps easily and settled in to our home much quicker than we anticipated. She is happy to snooze away whilst you watch tv or read.

Unfortunately, Foxy had to have 2 teeth pulled out as they were really loose and the vet just pulled them out with her fingers. She will also have to have another one out but might have to go under a general anaesthetic to do this. The vet said it is not urgent, but her new home would have to consider this in the next couple of months or so.

She also had her stitches out, and has had to go on some medication as she has 2 open wounds where her teeth were, and there was a problem with one of her stitches, so the vet was worried that it might get infected. Apart from that she is in good health. The vet was unsure how old she was and she said “possibly middle aged” but agreed she did seem a bit younger, as she was so enthusiastic!

We are going to get her professionally groomed so her coat will be sparkling. At the moment she still has a few nasty matts, but she is learning to trust me, so I have got a few out.

We have thoroughly enjoyed fostering little Foxy, she really is a lovely dog, and she will make a great addition to your family.

     UPDATE ON FOXY

It’s been almost a month now since little Fox joined our family and she’s come on leaps and bounds. She’s been professionally groomed, so the remaining matts have gone and she looks beautiful – all the neighbours say what a pretty dog she is!

The slight infection around one of her stitches has gone and the loss of two teeth certainly hasn’t affected Foxy’s appetite. She’s improved remarkably on the lead but certainly still enjoys her walks!! We’ve also let her off the lead on occasion and she’s always come back when called.

The best news however is that she spent a long weekend with Joan, Brian and their dog Josh. Despite our reservations and concerns,  she was OK with Josh, once she realised he would not hurt her. She is also slowly starting to learn to ignore some of the other dogs she encounters on her travels – so perhaps a home with other animals isn’t out of the question.

We took the Fox up to Scotland for a 60th birthday celebration and she was no trouble in the car. Occasionally she’d get a bit fidgety but this was usually when she needed the toilet and some fresh air. She loved all the fuss she got over the weekend and wasn’t at all fazed by new surroundings and people.

Around the house she’s super. Foxy understands that our food is ours and doesn’t pester us & also knows when to sit quietly and let us hoover/iron/cook etc. As we put in our first article Foxy really is an adorable, pretty little thing and she will make a great addition to your family.
