Freya Bromage

FREYA was about 18mths old and a stray who nobody claimed from the Pound. She was spayed by us in Ireland.

RELEASED IN MEMORY OF LADY

Maura paid Freya’s release fee from Dunboyne pound in memory of Lady, her friend’s dog who died earlier this year aged 15. Maura said ” I knew Lady for most of her life, as she lived in the next street to me in London, and Debbie and I got friendly in the park over the years. My gang and Lady got on great, in fact we had a wonderful crowd of dog walkers in the Whittington Park in London. All the dogs got to know each other and then the owners did! There’s nothing like a dog to break the ice!

Debbie adored Lady and she wanted for nothing, she was the centre of Debbie’s life. Lady was so well named, she was so sweet and so elegant – not a bit like Debbie! Sadly time caught up with her.

It’s hard to know what to do or say to someone whose dog has died, but paying a release fee to help another goldie on her way is a great tribute to Lady.

The really good news is that Debbie has recently adopted another goldie from Irish Retriever Rescue…….
little Tonks, now called Molly and living happily ever after with Debbie.

I am delighted to be able to help Freya on her way and SO pleased that she is going to IRR so she will have the chance of as long and as happy a life as Lady did”.

Thank you from Freya and all at IRR for your kindness, Maura.

IN FOSTER IN SOMERSET

Pauline says “Freya arrived safe and sound with Derry and Lottie. She desperately needed a brush (which she loved) and she was very good whilst I cut some nasty knots out from behind her ears. She ate her breakfast (heavily laced with flower essences to settle her) and was soon fast asleep with her new boyfriend, Derry. She was microchipped later that day so that then all the nasty stuff would be behind her.

At the same time she was child tested and passed with flying colours, being very sweet and gentle.

After a couple of days the smile had returned to her sad little face and the fear had totally disappeared from her eyes. She has been lovely with many different people and gets on brilliantly with every dog she meets.”

LUCKY, LUCKY FREYA

Freya is one very lucky girl. She has found the most wonderful home in Cumbria. Our homechecker was very tempted to move into her new home with her. Helen said “The bed and breakfast is in the middle of a very beautiful valley, fairly deep into the Lakes. What can I say, Freya has well and truly fallen on her feet. There are big gardens and the back gate opens directly onto a little used bridle path.”

Bonnie and Freya both get on really well and Bonnie is showing Freya the ropes. Freya is enjoying running through the garden and orchard. Apparently, there was a little growling when they first met, when they were just sorting out an order but Bonnie has a large pair of bossy knickers and Freya is quite content with that.

The only minor problem is that Freya won’t wee on a walk when they are out, except occasionally right at the end of the walk. It is quite possible that she has been kennelled and sees hard surfaces as the place to go. Diane and John are patiently working on that one, no doubt with the help of Bonnie too. It wasn’t a problem whilst in foster as she was able to utilise a concrete patio when necessary.

After only a few days, Freya has settled in and has, apparently, found a very good spot laying in front of Diane in the lounge. Freya does get tired quickly but, with all those lovely walks, she will be very fit in no time at all. Her new mum and dad are chuffed to bits with her.

UPDATE FEB 09

It is a while since we brought Freya home and she has settled in well. She does not bother with the sheep. She is now fully house trained and has become a real darling so much so that the guests think the world of her and Bonnie.
