Freya Hoskins
Freya is one of the 6 babies born to Rosie on 3rd May.2015. The 3 boys are Bear, Barley and Moe. Freya’s sisters are Millie and Ava.
Her forever Mum, Dawn says “She is such a cheeky pup! A completely adorable little thief who we love to pieces.
She is having 3 meals a day and is typically always ‘starving’ even 2 minutes after she has eaten a whole bowl full. She is scavenging in the fruit garden and veggie patch and we haven’t had a single strawberry or raspberry since she arrived – she checks them every day and the minute they are red she takes them straight off the plant! She will literally eat anything I drop on the floor whilst cooking. She runs off super-fast the minute she has scooped it up off the floor – so cheeky. I think she prefers the windfalls to her actual food as she isn’t stealing that.
She goes into a crate for bed-time and, although not keen on it, she doesn’t complain too much.
This will continue until she is completely toilet trained as, at the moment, she can’t get through the night. She is becoming more aware of toileting and doesn’t want to do it in the crate (she woke me at 4am this morning to go for a wee!). She is also quite determined to eat her own poop and we are not always successful at getting in there quick enough (yuck). No doubt, she saw Rosie doing it and thinks it is the right thing to do.
She is still getting used to having a collar on for the first time in her little life. It is really loose at the moment just to get her used to it gently. Hopefully, by the time we are going for proper walks, it will all be normal for her. She completely bit through the lead last week! I try to put it on for about 5 minutes every day to walk around the garden – she turns into a jumping jack every time trying to catch the lead and is not stressed at all – it’s just a new game to her. I will look into getting a half-linked lead so she can’t grab it and bite through although it’s not so important at the moment whilst she can’t leave the house/garden.
Unfortunately, she has had (and is still recovering from) juvenile cellulitis (puppy strangles) which has made her eyes, muzzle and ears very sore and swollen. She has been having steroids at a reducing rate. The vet may either finish the treatment completely or put her on every-other-day dosage and reduce it gradually so her immune system can kick back in.
As her immunisations are going to be very late in the day, we are doing as much ‘at-home’ socialising as possible. I have been inviting all my doggy friends with fully vax’ed dogs to come over and we have had visits of some kind nearly every day last week and I plan to do this going forward. She just wants to play with EVERY new human she sees and after getting over the initial shock of each new dog visitor she wants to run around with them too – so that is going really well.
We visited Trudy and she had an hour or so of rough and tumble with her brother and sister. My goodness, they are rough – she came home with a cut eye and bloody nose but a very ,very waggy tail. It was nice for Trudy to see her as well, as I think she misses all the little ones that have moved out.
