Gracie
GRACIE’S HISTORY
Gracie is a beautiful 6yr old golden retriever who was surrendered as her family were emigrating.
FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT
I collected Gracie from Andy and Val and was amazed at her friendliness. She readily accepted fuss and I was rewarded with lots of wags. She was very calm and quiet and wasn’t travel sick on her long journey.
Since arriving here Gracie has been superb with our three children and in particular our youngest, Thomas (4 ½) who has no issues being around her. Thomas is disabled and has recently developed a strong dislike to dogs that are playful/boisterous and demand attention. Fortunately Gracie is the complete opposite so Thomas can approach Gracie on his terms. She is a very affectionate and loving girl who enjoys human contact.
Gracie is pretty good on the lead but does occasionally pull, however not excessively, although she seems much better when I use a harness rather than her collar. She’s very friendly towards other dogs and we’ve not had any issues when we’ve met dogs out walking. I haven’t let her off lead yet but I suspect that she will respond well to a recall command.
Gracie is fine being left on her own but like all dogs doesn’t really like it and would much rather be around humans. Gracie is fully house trained and we have had no accidents as of yet.
In summary, Gracie is a lovable and affectionate girl who would be the perfect companion easily adapting to family life.
DEC 2011: GRACIE HAS NOW GONE TO HER FOREVER HOME
Today Gracie left our care to start her new life with Pauline and her lovely family in Aylesbury. We wish them every success and hope that Gracie brings them lots of pleasure and enjoyment.
We hope that they keep in touch as Gracie was one of our special dogs and we shall miss her, but that’s the down side of fostering these wonderful dogs!
UPDATE DEC 2011
We would like to say a huge “Thank You” to IRR in allowing us to have Gracie – she is the most gentle loving lady ever: she certainly lives up to her name by being such a calm graceful dog.
She has really settled in well now although this took a little longer than what we expected. She loves the children, is great with the tortoises and keeps me busy during the day – she really is a dream.
She loves going out for her walks and is very well behaved (until she spots a squirrel that is). She has made some great doggie friends over the park too and gets on really well with my sister’s 7 mth old puppy. When he visits they play beautifully, running up and down together, then Gracie is worn out when he leaves.
We look forward to hopefully meeting up with every one at one of IRR’s re-unions.
Thank you once more IRR for giving us Gracie – we love her so much and we couldn’t ever be without her now!
