Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 14 September 2024

Gracie’s mum said, “Our darling Gracie passed over to the rainbow bridge on Saturday (14 September 2024) evening. She bounced into our lives almost 10 years ago, rescued by IRR from an awful existence. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and brought so much love and happiness into our lives. We are all absolutely devastated that we had to let her go but she had chosen her time. Thank you, IRR for allowing Gracie to join our family. Run free my sweet, stubborn, funny little darling. We love you more than words can say.”

UPDATES FROM A WONDERFUL FOREVER HOME

On 12.3.2016, Kerrie said “Gracie loves life and enjoys the sunshine. She loves being able to run, play, have cuddles and, most definitely, to cuddle down in a warm comfy bed with a full tummy.

Gracie’s life wasn’t always like this, before Kathryn & IRR rescued Gracie. She didn’t even have a name, was left outside and her puppies had been taken from her. Gracie is like so many of the dogs who were mistreated, neglected, abused or unwanted until IRR came along and helped them to see what a dogs life should be like.

AN APPEAL FROM GRACIE

Now IRR need our help to pay for Lottie’s operation, Barnie’s vet fee’s and to be able to carry on rescuing more dogs in need. Please help where you can by buying a raffle ticket, selling or bidding on an Auction Page item, organising a Paws Walk, in fact, whatever you can do, big or small every little bit helps.

Please help IRR to help more dogs like me love Gracie xx

 GRACIE’S CHRISTMAS WISH (10.12.2017)

Kerrie said “Many of you will already know Gracie’s story, some of you will have dogs with a story very similar to Gracie’s but I thought I would share Gracie’s story again.

I think if Gracie could tell me her Christmas Wish she would tell me that she hoped that no dog had to suffer like she had and to do that she would like people to help IRR to help more dogs like her. The pictures show Gracie when she was rescued and Gracie today. This is what Kathryn wrote about Gracie when IRR rescued her.

HOW KATHRYN TOLD HER STORY (12.10.2014)

Glorious Gentle Grace had no name. She just belonged to someone who bred her and sold the puppies she had. She had been pregnant 3 months before we rescued her. The pictures tell the story of a very sad dog missing her family who had been left outside.

She clearly had no attention, love or affection. She didn’t know what it was to have a face close to her to tell her that it was going to be ok. Someone to stroke her and tell her how pretty she was and that life was going to be wonderful.

Irish Retriever Rescue in close association with Martina from Babydog Rescue had got her the chance. Martina drove hours to get Grace, who had no name and met with the Irish Retriever Rescue Coordinator half way.

Our IRR rescuer groomed her and, for the first time, she stopped shaking, started walking and wagging her tail. She met her canine companions and wagged more and, in a very short time, she began to realise that the dog with no name, with a past and no future was important.

She was important and she did have a name and it was GRACE. Gentle in nature, sweet, quiet and totally wonderful. She deserved not a home but a castle. This was a real lady and she had the manners to prove it.

HISTORY

In 2014 Gracie (was Lucy) was 5 years old and was surrendered to IRR by her owner because of a change in family circumstances.

Originally available for adoption with her brother Sam, we felt it would be better to rehome them separately. Gracie has shown herself to be a lovely, bold girl. She has good recall, knows several commands and settles well at night. She loves her walks and is good on the lead. She is sociable with other dogs but is untested with cats.
