Harry
Harry’s History
Harry is 5 years old and is a beautiful very dark golden colour. He was a very much loved dog but he and his pal were surrendered into Mullingar Pound by their heartbroken owner as their family had a change of circumstances and could no longer keep them. First assessment: Ireland – April 2013
Sandie says “He seems to be well socialised as he lived with another entire male without any problems. He passed his assessment with flying colours and would suit any type of home as long as it doesn’t have a cat. He travelled very well in the car. Although he normally walks very well on the lead, probably due to the stress of the day, he wasn’t so good.”
Fosterer’s report: Ireland – April 2013
Sinead says “Harry came to stay with me after being rescued from the Pound due to a change in his owners circumstances. First impressions were that he was a bit more rustic in colour then the average Golden Retriever but equally as friendly none the less!!
He travelled fine in my car and was eager to sniff out his new surroundings when we got home. He travels well in a jeep but an owner would need a dog guard in a car to keep him back.
He slept fine the first night in my kitchen with no toilet accidents! Next morning we went for a long walk to test him on the lead. He pulled initially but were soon walking smoothly. Later that day I took him to my stables to see the horses and meet some other dogs. He was very friendly and well behaved and respectful to the other animals, getting on fine with other dogs and with horses.
At the stables he was off lead, running around the yard and the field, when I was bringing in my horse. Harry has a great recall, coming when called whilst loose. Having done a 6km walk, I can safely say he walks perfectly on a lead, trotting along nicely at your side. He is also fit and would suit a walker or someone into jogging.
He is housetrained and enjoys being brushed. Barking has been minimal and there has been no chewing. He is very well behaved and understands the word ‘no’. He immediately stops what he’s doing when you ask. He shows no aggression towards other dogs in relation to food or possessions. He will retrieve a toy thrown for him but hasn’t yet got the grasp of dropping it at your feet!
Overall Harry is a pleasant, friendly, gentle and fun dog who will adapt and make a perfect addition to any family home.”
Harry has gone to his forever home: April 2013
Harry has been rehomed in County Wicklow, Ireland with his new family – mum Lorna, dad Michael, 2 adult children, a cat and 13 year old Golden Retriever, Chloe. Dad Michael particularly wanted a boy dog to balance things out as he was outnumbered by a house full of females!
Immediately Harry arrived, he was at ease and said his hellos to everyone particularly Chloe who is a surprisingly active Golden for her age. Sadly the family had just lost their other dog to cancer and were looking for a companion for her and a new addition to their family.
Harry got on well and everyone liked him – they were all very happy that he was to be the new family member they were looking for.
Sinead says “Harry will live in the home with Chloe and her humans, spending his days running free in their huge garden and having long walks in the nearby forest. I have no doubt that Harry has gone to a very happy forever home where he will be cared for and loved dearly!!!”
MAY 2013
Harry has now been joined by Bruno, and three of them are best friends.
