Indy Hewitt

A HEART-WARMING HAPPY ENDING

Having, thankfully, being rescued from the jaws of death, the gorgeous Indy found a marvellous Forever Home and, after a few months, a brand new friend in another IRR rescue lady, Rosie.

UPDATE 1.5.2019

Sue says “Today is Indy’s Gotcha Day. She has been our furry girl for 3 wonderful years.

This year is also the 3rd anniversary of Rosy’s rescue, a match made in Heaven and weren’t we the lucky ones? I adore the bones of these two. Thank you IRR for our beauties”

HISTORY

Indie (now Indy) is a 5 year old vaccinated, spayed female Golden Retriever.

Heather says “Well what can I say about lovely Indie? She was advertised by Carrick Pound. There is no history on her except she was supposed to be straying and someone brought her in saying she had been with them for two weeks while he tried to find her owner but, with no luck, he decided to bring her to the pound.

She had done her 5 days and was going to be put to sleep”.

FOSTER ASSESSMENT IN NORTHERN IRELAND

PERSONALITY: Indie is a delightful girl who is nervous of new situations but very quickly comes around with a little bit of encouragement. A friend who transported her to  Heather’s house said she just got into the car and lay down. She enjoyed and embraced being hugged and told she was a good girl.

When Heather returned from work, Indie greeted her with a big hug. She is definitely a sweetheart. She settled extremely well with Heather in what she describes as her  madhouse. Indie has shown no aggression in any form at all.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Travel:   Indie is a good traveller but she is scared of passing cars and will pull to the opposite side of where she is walking. She did well getting on the boat unlike poor Cooper who was terrified despite him being the more confident of the two dogs.

Lead walking, recall and retrieve:  Heather took them all out for a walk and thought she would see what she did off lead (in a safe place). She let Indie off and she ran a few feet in front of her then looked back to see where she was so Heather  called her. She came straight back and sat down. She can be strong on the lead for a few minutes after the start of walking but soon settles down and walks to heel nicely.

She discovered tennis balls and loves to play fetch with them and will also bring them back and drop them for you.

Food: She has been eating and drinking out of the same bowl as Cooper and Bailey. There is no food aggression or possession.

Dogs:  On arrival, she didn’t know what to make of Pepper as she was bouncing around her trying to play. At first, she cowered a little bit but soon decided this was a great game and she wanted to join in.

There are a few rivers where Heather normally walks so she took them all down to let them go for a swim. Indie was straight into the water and was swimming buddied up with Bailey more than Pepper. Indie and Bailey were inseparable …. where you saw her, you saw him (which is great for him as he tends to shy away from new furbabies that come in but not with Indie).

HEALTH

Heather’s only concern was her bark which is, apparently, like someone with a sore throat …. the lips go up and the mouth moves but a squeak comes out.

She was checked over at the vets  and was told she had been spayed already. The vet is a new one who was extremely thorough and said she couldn’t see anything wrong. They are wondering if it’s just how she is or f, over the years, her throat has been hurt from pulling on the lead. They cannot be sure.

The vet did say to keep an eye on her ears. She mentioned, in passing, that she may have trouble from time to time because of the shape of them.
