Jilly Hayward
ANOTHER HUGE LOSS SO SOON AFTER CASSIE
It was with great sadness and regret that David told us their oldest rescue dog, Jilly, had to be put to sleep before Christmas. She had a big problem with one of her rear legs due to arthritis and possibly something worse as well. Jilly got to the point of not being able to put her leg down at all and she kept falling over. This gave Pam and David no choice.
They have now had to say goodbye to their second dog in 3 months having lost Cassie in September. They, now, only have Lucy, who seems to be okay.
David said “Jilly was a sturdy girl. She had gone through the problems of a puppy farm and, no doubt, would have been a good mother. When she came as a foster dog, we felt so sorry for her and, as we all do, fell in love with her.
Her undercarriage was hanging down and, tongue in cheek, I asked the vet if she could have a Tummy Tuck The reply was, “of course, if you have plenty of money'”. Needless to say we didn’t.
However, after a few years, she was diagnosed as having a mammory tumour. The op was done and more had to be taken away than expected so she had her tummy tuck after all and got over it well.
Later on she also had a tumour on her leg. This was removed and she got over that too. She was always a hardy girl but, sadly, the latest challenge proved too much for her.
Jilly was so loyal and followed me everywhere. I can safely say that I have never heard her shout or be angry with any other dog at all, even when the youngsters have pinched her food.
She was 12yrs old and she was with us for 5 years. Already, both Pam and myself miss her terribly. Of all the dogs we have had over the years, Jilly was the dearest and as, undoubtedly, the most loyal. We gave her a good home and we loved her.
Fly with the angels, Jilly. Now, reunited forever with your younger friend Cassie.
HISTORY
When rescued in Romania from a high kill Pound, Jilly was a 7yr old female Labrador who had not been spayed.
IN FOSTER
David said “Jilly is a lovely girl who is extremely mild mannered. Since being here in her foster home, she has settled in very well.
When she arrived she needed feeding up but she has already begun to put on weight.
She had a bath on her second day in foster and loved it, especially the grooming part.
Jilly walks very well on the lead and is obedient.
She reacts well to children and gets on very well with other dogs but it is not yet known how she reacts to cats as she hasn’t seen one”.
A DREAM HOME FOR JILLY
Jilly is a lovely dog who has had a tough time and deserves to be the centre of someone’s universe for the rest of her life. Her only companions have been other dogs so she would fare best with the continued friendship of a canine friend as well as having a kind and loving owner.
STAYING PUT (FEBRUARY UPDATE 2015)
We are delighted to say, Jilly has been so good that her fosterers decided that their’s should be her ‘forever home’.
As Jilly and Lucy get on so well together, it would have been wrong to part them so, now, the two girls will be able to enjoy their wonderful new lives together.
Cassie, Jilly’s sister, after being allowed to come from Romania following veterinary treatment there and completing maternal duties also joined the family.
