Kerry Sherwin

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News March 2021

Kerry’s mum, Jacqueline, said:

“Our beautiful ‘Kerry-gold’ crossed over the bridge in March 2021. She was 14 years old, and we’d have to pleasure of having her in our lives for 10 years.

I remember the day we met so clearly. We went to visit her at her foster mum, Jane, near Birmingham, after chatting for a while, Jane brought her in. I instantly sat on the floor and cried as Kerry came up to me for a hug, the love between us was instant.

Like most rescue dogs, she had her issues, but she was the most lovely, good-natured dog possible. She loved everyone and was asked at our local primary school to become a reading dog. We went every Thursday morning for several years and we’d sit on a rug surrounded by young children who wanted to read to her.

We have such wonderful memories, and we miss her deeply.”

History

IT WAS HARD TO LET HER GO

Kerry is a Golden Retriever who was 4 years old in 2010. She was fostered in Kidderminster with Jane and her family. Kerry had been heartbrokenly surrendered to IRR due to a change in her owners circumstances.

HER FOSTERER’S REPORT

Jane said “Kerry is a dream, everything a Golden Retriever should be…. laid back, affectionate and eager to please.

She has been well and truly tested in her foster home, sharing her home with dogs, chickens, ducks and pigs!! She would be considered for a home with cats providing they were older confident cats that wouldn’t run away, as the young kitten at the moment is proving too much of a great game, whilst the old cat has earned her respect!

Kerry is excellent with children and is looking for a home where she will be part of the family not left alone all day. She has a pretty good recall but will require some basic lead training.

All in all Kerry is a wonderful dog who has been given a great start in life and is looking for somebody to share the rest of it with”.

KERRY HAS GONE TO HER FOREVER HOME

On 7 November, Kerry went to her wonderful forever home with Jacqueline and John.

UPDATE FROM HER NEW HOME 10 (DEC 2010)

Jacqueline said. “Kerry has settled into our family, really well. On the first evening she was in the lounge with us, constantly wanting to give her paw. We pondered over whether to change her name, but nothing we came up seem to suit her – so she’s remained Kerry (after all, it is Irish)!

She’s getting used to her routine – waiting for her Dad to take her out on her daily morning walk. She’s brilliant off the lead, cautious of other dogs, and comes back to us easily. She’s unsure what to do with toys, but gradually getting more playful and recently she’s greeted me at the door with a teddy in her mouth!

She comes to my son’s football matches each week, she’s not too keen to get into the car; in fact the second time we opened the car up for her to jump in – she legged it up the road! However, she enjoys it when she’s there – not too keen on watching the football – but loves all the attention.

We took her on the local Paws Across the Sea fundraising walk, it was lovely to meet some of the other dogs and their rescuers and fosters. We’re very grateful to the IRR for Kerry and we’re looking forward to her first Christmas with us (think Santa may bring her a few extra special presents this year for being such a good girl)!”
