Laura
Laura is a 2 year old Golden Retriever girl with a gentle personality. She is super affectionate and is in good health. She was vet checked and rabies vaxed as soon as possible so she was legal to travel to the UK early in February.
HISTORY
She had been offered for sale on Done Deal whilst in season which means she won’t be spayed before her adoption. Thankfully, she was rescued on 11th January by IRR Bryan, our South Eastern Ireland Coordinator, dealing with Kerry, Cork and Mayo, and a very welcome addition to the Irish Team, has immeasurable experience in rescue. He spoke to the owner for a long time convincing her that IRR would take good care of Laura then made the five hour journey to collect her as soon as possible. He then took Laura to the safety of P and E Kennels where she could be assessed. Dogs ‘in heat’ are not put into a foster home as, no matter how careful a fosterer is, ‘things happen’. She is a super girl and was in kennels with our beautiful Bonnie, who has her own sad story. They formed a great bond and helped each other immensely. She arrived in the UK on 10th February and went into foster with Liz in the Midlands.
PERSONALITY
Laura is a lovely friendly, pretty dog. She is quite petite and very puppyish. She is fairly confident and has no issues. Laura is alert and inquisitive, playful and happy, fairly boisterous and energetic.
HEALTH
Laura is in good health apart from being just out of season. She suffered with travel sickness which has been managed by feeding small bland meals Her ears / eyes / mouth / teeth / skin / legs and feet are good and her bowel/bladder movements are good too.
SOCIAL LEARNING
TRAVEL: She was horribly travel sick which has made her fearful of the car
HOUSETRAINING: She is almost there ……..probably 4/5
BASIC TRAINING: She is food orientated so easy to train. Already, after 4 days, she did sit, paw and bed, all by watching my boys.
LEAD WALKING This needs work. She probably rates 2/5 on slip lead and body harness
RECALL: Laura recalls very well in the house and garden
RESOURCE GUARDING: She shows no evidence of resource guarding
SEPARATION ANXIETY: There are no signs of separation anxiety
ADULTS: Laura is very friendly with adults. She especially loves men !
CHILDREN: She has not met many children
DOGS: She is very friendly with other dogs and will play with small dogs
We went on an IRR dog walk with lots of other dogs. She soon relaxed and was fine with the other dogs and new people. Laura loves my male dogs and likes to snuggle into one of them at night
CATS: She has not been cat tested
LAURA’S DREAM HOME
Laura would be suitable for someone who is prepared to give this girl time to settle and who will be gentle with her. She needs people who will show her that life is worth living. We think she would be best suited living with a canine pal to explain the ropes of the life ahead of her.
The new owners won’t be disappointed by this wonderful girl who wants simply to love and be loved.
March 2018
