Louis Noble
EXTREMELY SAD NEWS (4.6.2018)
We heard the very sad news from Barb “With great sadness, I have to announce that my amazing boy Louis gained his wings on Monday 4th June.
He deteriorated rapidly over the previous week and it became apparent in the early hours of Monday morning that he had had enough. It was time to let him go, be free and no longer in pain. I cannot describe the love I felt for this boy. I’ve always loved all my dogs with a passion but Louis got to me like no other dog ever has. He has taken a huge chunk of my heart. He really was a dog in a million and my “soul dog”.
I’ll always miss him and will never ever forget this special dog, with his goofy grin, my constant shadow and Lottie’s wonderful big brother. I was privileged to be owned by him for three and a half amazing years. Little did I know then, when I adopted Louis from IRR, that I’d become part of an amazing family. I feel very fortunate to have some incredible supportive friends in the group who have helped me through these past few dark days”.
A day after posting, Barb added “ I would just like to say a huge “thank you” to each and everyone of you who has commented on my sad post about Louis. I’ve received so many personal messages, poems and kind loving wishes, I’m overwhelmed.I was too upset to read the comments yesterday but I’ve now read each and everyone of them. Tonight, I’ll raise a glass to my amazing boy and Lottie and I will curl up on the sofa and comfort each other. The support I’ve received from some of you has kept me going this past week. I don’t need to name names as you know who you are but huge thanks to you. You don’t know how much it has meant knowing you were there to chat to”.
After a few days, Barb told us “, I really did try, but sadly nothing helped. After his last session of acupuncture, even my vet said he is really reaching the end, his poor bones were crunching. He rapidly deteriorated over the last week and in the early hours of Monday I knew it was time. I’m utterly heartbroken, he really was my soul dog and I’ll always miss him.
Lottie and I are currently snuggled up together, she is really going to miss him, she was always looking to him for reassurance. In time when I’m ready I’ll adopt again. For now we will look after each other”
We can never thank Barb enough for giving Louis such a wonderful home and for doing everything she could for him. Nobody could have tried harder or done more but it was always going to be an uphill battle.
At least, Louis had a brilliant three and a half years of love and luxury, a far cry from the horrible life he had endured before.
His spiritual healing complete, his time had come to go and be with the other dog angels.
HISTORY
Louis, a neutered male, was referred to us as a 12 year old but we strongly suspected he was a lot younger as he behaved more like a 6 to 8 year old. Before being rehomed by Irish Retriever Rescue, he was rescued from a high kill pound in the Balkans by another charity. We brought him over because they ran out of funds and couldn’t afford the transport for him. He had been treated for heartworm in Romania and was in a very bad way when he came over.
IN FOSTER
He was fostered by a lovely man from the original rescue for several months and his vet there diagnosed him with many problems. In the end, the fosterer said that we should just look at a couple at a time and he was right. Some of them were caused by the heartworm treatment and these righted themselves. At this point, IRR took over his rehoming and he landed on all four paws when he found Barb in December 2014.
Personality
Louis is a very cuddly boy who likes to stay close to his humans; he gets on well with other dogs and ignores cats he has seen on walks. Louis walks well on his lead. He doesn’t like travelling in the car and although this is improving he doesn’t understand why he can’t sit on his fosterer’s lap! He will need to travel either in a crate or with a dog guard in place. He has met visiting children and been fine. Louis does get over-excited when meeting people and will bark at them, this will need a little working on. Louis doesn’t know how to play with other dogs but enjoys a gentle play fight with his fosterer.
Louis’s dream home
Louis needs a loving patient family where someone is at home all day, ideally, there will be a quietly confident resident dog that won’t demand to play with Louis, to help to build his confidence. Louis would love a home where he’ll enjoy plenty of cuddles and walks.
