Gorgeous Louis is a Golden Retriever, 2yrs old and neutered

HISTORY

Louis was an outdoor farm dog, sadly, tied to a pole for much of his life.

He was straying for some time before he was picked up by the dog wardens. Martina, who has her own rescue, very kindly helped IRR to get him. She also washed him, got him neutered and had his vaccinations done on our behalf.

PERSONALITY

This stunner has a coat that glistens. Like any dog deprived of it, he just wants lots of attention.

He is a very affectionate boy but he does grab biscuits or treats still as he, no doubt, remembers the days when he had nothing to eat. This is, of course, being worked on.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Louis settled well into his foster home in the Uk and is clearly going to be a water baby as he nipped straight into his fosterer’s pond and swam a length or two!

He knows what “no” means.

Housetraining: He is fully housetrained.

Leadwalking: Louis is now good on the lead.

Recall: He now knows his name and his fosterer, Patricia, is working on his recall. He has only been off lead in a very secure area.

Separation anxiety: Louis is slowly getting used to the good life and, if his fosterer is out of sight, he panics and goes looking for her. The relief on his face when he does find her, is very evident.

Dogs: Louis is good with other big dogs. He has been really good with his fosterer’s male GR, however her daughter’s Pug was a totally different matter and, unfortunately, he didn’t like that dog at all.

Cats: He is quite inquisitive. He will chase cats if they run but, otherwise, he will watch them warily.

Children: Teenagers in an active loving home would probably suit him best

Other livestock: Louis is getting used to horses but loves cows and licks them.

Louis is now in the UK.
