Lucy Loo MacKenzie
EXTREMELY SAD NEWS (29.2.2020)
Jenny said “On the 28th February, we said goodbye to our lovely Lucy Lou. The kindest, calmest, most independent, wise and beautiful girl we were lucky enough to spend 9 wonderful years with.
Lucy had been healthy all her life, then suddenly went into kidney failure in October. Her scan showed she’d been born with small, misshapen kidneys which weren’t even where kidneys should be. She’d done well to live as long as she had without symptoms.
She was hospitalised and treated but, then, within a week of being home, she was back in hospital with pancreatitis. It was touch and go and on discharge she was given ‘hours or days’ to live.
But, they didn’t know Lucy, or us. She’s had 4 fabulous months aided by a range of palliative support. She’s had a few bad days, but mostly she’s lived life to the full.
On Thursday, she hit an all time low. Then she rallied, but by yesterday afternoon it was clear that despite all the care and medication, it was her time.
We are all heartbroken. We miss her dreadfully, but we know she’s at peace”.
EARLY HISTORY
Jenny said: “We collected Lucy and Hope from the transporter at the same time to foster the two girls together. By the time we reached home we could see that Lucy was concerned about Hope, who was very timid. It was soon clear that Lucy was giving Hope enormous confidence. Lucy’s caring and considerate ways were amazing, and within days she had helped Hope out of her shell and melted our hearts. So without a second thought we adopted Lucy, much to the approval of our 2 dogs, especially our young Labrador, who is around the same age.
Here she is enjoying life in her forever home, where she is also training to be an Irish Retriever Rescue foster support worker (girls division)!”
