Lucy Pudsey

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

Sad News 3rd February 2022

Sadly at 12.30pm on 3rd February 2022, Rainbow bridge gained another angel. Mary and Andy had to say their last goodbye to their beloved Lucy and are heartbroken.

At 4 years old Lucy developed a rare tumour that was inoperable, she could have radiotherapy but had to lose her eye in order to continue with the treatment. The tumour was kept at bay for a further 5 years until a month ago, when she started having nosebleeds. Unfortunately, the tumour had re-activated.

Mary and Andy felt they could not put their best friend through anymore and made the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

We really hope angel sister Millie and foster brother angel Finlay are waiting to greet her.

History

Lucy is 9 months old and was surrendered because her owner couldn’t walk her on the lead and she was worried that she’d get into neighbouring livestock.

Fosterer’s 1st report: Ireland – 11th February 2013

Lucy is not used to travelling in the car, but is very calm. She gets on well with all my dogs and seems very happy in the company of other dogs. She would need to be lead trained.

Fosterer’s 1st report: UK – 17th February 2013

Lucy is an absolute beauty and such a sweet little girl. She’s been so chilled out today; she’s been to work with me and has taken everything in her stride. She has been great with all customers’ dogs, and has wanted to play and have affection off their owners. She’s been a small walk and has walked beautifully on the lead. She’s now flat out and dreaming.

She’s going to make someone VERY VERY happy.

Fosterer’s 2nd report – 25th February 2013

Lucy has really found her feet and has settled extremely well. Apart from a couple of accidents she has been dry throughout the night. I think she may have been trained on puppy pads, as she has weed on her bed a few times, although she will go to the door and paces when she wants to go out. She is extremely quick to learn and very compliant. She will sit and wait; she knows `no’ and comes to her name. She waits for her food and she will leave it if she has had enough. Both Lucy and our dog are fed together and she will eat her own and not bother him.

Lucy loves our dog and follows him everywhere, although she can be a bit boisterous with him, mouthing him and biting his feet and legs, but then she is only 9 months old. She can’t open doors yet and she will bark if she gets stuck in a room on her own. Apart from throughout the night we have only left her & Fin on their own once. She comes to work with me every day and now pulls me into the shop. She loves people and other dogs, but will push other dogs out of the way if she feels they are getting all the fuss. I think she may be a woman’s dog and she has attached herself to me, but is quite happy to be with my partner.

Lucy is a typical 9 month old. She can be boisterous and playful and then 10 minutes later she has settled down and is calm and content. She is not food or toy possessive, although we have learned not to give her soft toys as she kills them! She plays tug with our dog and is as stubborn as him. I was told that she initially didn’t travel well, but she now comes to work every day and I’ve had no problems. She will happily go in her harness and jump in the car. She loves to go on a walk, and is very good on the lead. She is a sniffer though and her nose is constantly to the ground.

She is a lovely little girl and everyone who sees her loves her. She will make someone a lovely pet. She is very loving and her tail never stops.

Lucy has gone to her forever home – 10th March 2013

The lovely Lucy has now gone to her forever home.

Mary has contacted me to let me know she is happily investigating her new home, has played football with her dad and is getting on well with Millie.

This has been a happy and sad day today, but we’ve loved having Lucy and are looking forward to helping the next arrival.

Update from Lucy’s forever home – March 2013

Lucy is settling down great guns. She is gradually getting used to the way we do things here. We are quickly getting used to the way Lucy works.

She’s always kissing and hugging us- we have to say ‘gently’ to her; and sometimes ‘help!’- I have quite a lot of bruises after being leapt on and being knocked off my feet.

She is calming down on a lead now, and plays chase with Millie in an enclosed area in our park- we just let them loose and duck. I never realised a basset could move quite that fast!

Lucy is a much loved and wanted part of our family, and I think she now knows this, as she is very content to be with us.

Regards,

The Pudsey Family

Mary, Andy, Millie and Lucy xx
