Luka

Luka is 18 months old and came from a high kill pound in the Balkans. He has settled well in his foster home and plays well with the two resident dogs (1 male and 1 female). He is used to being around cats and children but we would not recommend he is allowed off the lead near farm animals. He is clean indoors and not destructive. Luka loves been fussed (belly tickling being one of his favourite things!) and will sit for hours being groomed. He is good in the car, is very eager to please and bonds quickly with those around him.

Luka is quite underweight so will benefit from a good well balanced diet.

We feel he would fit well into a home with another dog who he can learn to play with, or at least someone at home most of the time for whom he can provide great companionship.

Luka has gone to his Forever Home

UPDATE ON LUKA (JAN 2015)

Gordon says that Luka has settled in very well in the home and is no trouble at all. They can’t imagine life without him now.

He revels in his long walks on the cliff top early morning and afternoon and on the beach where he enjoys paddling along in the surf barking at and chasing all the seagulls or playing with his ball.

Given his issues with other dogs while on walks and his selective recall he remains on the lead. One morning, Gordon let him off the lead on the beach when empty and he just took off chasing every seagull he could see which meant it took quite a time to get him back under control!

That having been said, Luka is improving all the time and it is becoming clear that, while he barks at other dogs and “lunges” on the lead, when he actually gets to meet them he is not aggressive in any way and just wants to play. Gordon is hoping they will get to the stage when his recall will be such that he can be let off the lead without fear that he will simply disappear along the beach.

Gordon, very kindly, said he hoped that all would go well with the work of IRR going forward and that we would be able to continue to find the best homes possible. He knows, as always, we will do our best to ensure that the poor dogs in our care will find the love and stability they deserve in return for their unconditional affection.
