Luna Prudhoe

NEW NAME, NEW HOME (DECEMBER 2018)

Foster brother Barnaby reported “ So, it’s happened again! IRR have found the most perfectest of perfect match and our beautiful Carly isn’t our foster sister any more!  She’s adopted and has her very own forever family!!!

ELLIE and CARLY with DIANA

Today she met Hugo (once my foster brother) and his sister Ellie and his Mum & Dad and they all fell truly, madly, deeply in love with one another”

A very happy Diana told us she and Derek made the long journey from Northumberland to Norfolk to collect their second IRR dog. She said not only were they lucky enough to adopt the beautiful Carly ( who they have renamed Luna) but they also collected her from the same foster home where Hugo had been living nearly 3 years before.

It really touched their hearts to see the strong bond that Hugo still has with Louise. She, of course, was the person who cared for him, looked after him, loved him and nursed him back to health when he was so very poorly. Although he has been in his forever home for nearly 3 years, he has never forgotten Louise.

On Luna’s first day in her forever home, she had her first walk with her new sister and brother .

Diana says “She is an absolutely delightful girl who we already love to bits. We still cannot believe we were so lucky and we thank IRR a thousand times for letting us adopt her”

CARLY’S HISTORY

Carly is a gorgeous 2.5 years old spayed Golden Retriever. She was vet checked and had all the necessary inoculations in Ireland to obtain her Pet Passport and be able to come to the UK where she went into foster with special foster brother, Barnaby and Louise and family.

Carly was a surrender who had already been bred from twice.

PERSONALITY

Louise said “Carly is a lovely girl. She is used to living in a house and is perfectly at home surrounded by adults and children. She is dog friendly and joined my pack the moment she arrived.

She can be a bit nervous when visitors arrive, when voices are raised or when she really doesn’t know what she’s supposed to be doing.

She’s affectionate and very used to home comforts. She sleeps on the sofa and human beds without hesitation. Whoever adopts her will, I think, have to accept this. She is also quite licky both with people and other dogs, but stops if told “no”.

She’s got a constant smile on her face and, in all honesty, it feels much like we have a friend’s dog here to stay.

She is pretty confident, alert and inquisitive, playful and happy.

Carly continues to beguile everyone she meets. She is calm,  well behaved and well adjusted. We haven’t seen any issues with her at all. Everything about her is delightful”.

HEALTH

There are a few minor problems but she is, basically, in good health.

SOCIAL LEARNING

TRAVEL: She is happy and content travelling in a vehicle as long as it is with at least one other dog.

HOUSETRAINING: She is housetrainedas long as there is free access to the garden and hourly trips out in the evening. There have been no accidents overnight.

BASIC TRAINING: Carly is fairly well socialised and has some basic training – enough for most people. She can sit and wait. Her recall is good at home and when we are out walking she checks in often.

LEADWALKING: and RECALL: She walks well with other dogs and as an only dog and shows nothing but passing interest in dogs we meet. She walks quite nicely on a slip lead and harness and has a good recall.   She is no trouble out walking with my dogs and walks well as an only dog, however, she does occasionally spook at loud noises and bangs.

RESOURCE GUARDING: She shows no evidence of resource guarding

SEPARATION ANXIETY: Carly does get a bit anxious if she’s shut out of a room with my dogs. She barks for attention and is overjoyed once allowed to join the humans again. She’s never been left on her own and I do think if she were she would find it very stressful ( she’s happier to be with a human and no dogs than no human and just dogs).

ADULTS:  She is very friendly with adults and children

CHILDREN:  She loves children of all ages and follows them around. She’s not pushy in any way and is gentle through and through.

DOGS: She is very friendly with other dogs. Carly is a typical two and a half year old. She happily joins in playing with my younger dogs, Barnaby and Delilah, but she also respects my older ones and after initial tries to engage them in games has left them alone. She knows to give Millie space. She tries to instigate play with Bill but he’s far too worried by her to join in.

She is usually found sleeping with at least one other dog, she eats with my pack with no problem and she will wait her turn for a treat.

CATS:  She is ok-ish with cats. I would say 3/5

OTHER SMALL ANIMALS: I haven’t seen any sign of a worrying prey drive – she’s interested in pheasants and squirrels but no more so than my own dogs.

CARLY’S DREAM HOME

Carly’s new people would, ideally, be at home most of the time as she needs company and likes to know someone is around. She would also benefit from the company of another dog or dogs for reassurance. Apart from that, Carly could fit in almost anywhere as she is so lovely.

A WONDERFUL HOME (December 2018)

Luna has gone to live in her wonderful Forever Home with Ellie and Hugo.
