SADLY DEPARTED TO RAINBOW BRIDGE (LATE JULY 2019)

We were all very sorry to hear that Max has crossed the Bridge

Fly with the angels, lovely boy

HISTORY

In 2011, Max, a gorgeous Golden Retriever, was about 3 or 4yrs old when IRR rescued him. He had been taken to the Pound because he was very nervous and found it difficult to settle.

Max went into foster with David in Matlock.

FOSTER REPORT

Max is a 3/4 year old Golden Retriever. He is very nervous and found it difficult to settle so he was taken to the pound. Max is currently in foster with David in Matlock.

FOSTER REPORT

David says “Max is a lovely boy, but I have found he is very nervous of the road when he is on the lead. He seems to be upset by vehicle noises – and even jumped when the telephone rang.

When he is out of the town, away from roads and off the lead he is a completely different boy. He absolutely loves the water and splashed straight into the river with Zoey and they swam and swam. He seems comfortable in the countryside and is happy with farms and farm animals.

At home he will not yet eat from a bowl if we are anywhere near, but will take a treat if he sees Zoey taking one. Strangely he seems frightened of our cat! And just hates cigarette smoking.“

Max is strong, inquisitive and very loving once he knows and trusts you. Due to his nervous nature we are looking for a non-smoking, country home with at least one dog to help build his confidence.

MAX HAS GONE TO HIS FOREVER HOME (SEPTEMBER 2011)

Max has settled in really well! His journey here was trouble free and my two gave him a noisy reception when he arrived. Minnie has put him soundly in his place and Floyd is trying to keep up with him!

He settled down on his new bed in the kitchen and spends a lot of time there now! He was a little anxious at bedtime when I let them all out for bedtime tiddles – didn’t come in till 1.30 in the morning!! Luckily there haven’t been any more of those late nights.

Although he is still quite nervous of many things – sudden movements, loud noises, raised voices – he is gaining in confidence all the time. He now comes with a wagging tail for some affection and loves to get laid out when we are all watching telly.

He is a very different dog when outside – full of bounce and happy smiles. He loves chasing things in the garden – balls, apples, tuggers – although he hasn’t quite got the hang of bringing his toy back!

The guinea pigs fascinate him! He loves watching them and I think would like to chase them but they are just not scared!!!

He is also a collector of footwear! So far it is just an old sandal and a slipper and my walking boot laces! The row of shoes up the stairs is getting longer as we remember to put them out of his reach!

So its so far so good! He walks with the other two without too much problem – I will start to do a little heel work when I get his confidence. I haven’t dared let him off to play in the big field yet as I have enough trouble in the garden at the minute! But I’m sure it will come quite quickly! . He is a fabulous dog, so full of energy and life! I feel very privileged to be able to give him a home. His foster carers have done a brilliant job so far. It was tough leaving them after only meeting them for such a short time! I am keeping them up to date with all developments! Looking forward to being able to share Max’s progress!
