Nieve
FABULOUS NEWS FOR A LOVELY LITTLE LADY (FEBRUARY 2017)
Dawn has informed us that this lovely little girl now has a fabulous forever home. We are all delighted by the news and hope Nieve has a very long and happy life after such a horrible start.
HISTORY
Nieve is a medium sized, cream coloured Retriever Cross with the most delightful, freckled face. Nieve is now just over two years old and weighs approximately 21kg. She is being fostered in Leeds by her rescuer, Dawn.
Little Nieve was not rescued by IRR and is not being rehomed by us but we are helping with the search for a perfect home for this delightful little girl. Nieve had a very bad start in life. She was born on the streets of Romania but, luckily for her, she was found and taken into a rescue over there when she was about 6 months old. In her poor condition she succumbed to mange and her body was covered in sores. She went into vet clinic for a month and then came over to the UK and went into foster. Nieve needed further treatment but she is now fully recovered although she still needs allergy medication.
PERSONALITY
She has a sweet temperament. She is very affectionate and loves to be cuddled and petted. She was very scared and shy when she first came over but she is fine now although she is still a bit nervous of men she doesn’t know. Nieve will need patience and understanding as she is going to take time to settle in a new home. When she first came over she was quite traumatised and chewed everything in sight but as she has settled down she is much better. However the Retriever in her can’t resist running off with socks and other small items left lying around!
SOCIAL LEARNING
Home living: She is very frightened of fireworks but is ok with other loud noises such
as hoovers or bin lorries.
Nieve is very energetic and playful and can run like the wind. She will need a home with a very secure garden as she is very agile.
Separation anxiety: She will stay quietly in her bed when left Recall: Nieve has reasonable recall but cannot be trusted too close to roads. She will chase after birds or rats or squirrels for example. She would be best suited to a more rural location or the seaside. However, in a safe area, she can be off lead and will not run away especially if she is with another dog.
Children: She is great with children of all ages but is a bit too boisterous for very young ones.
Dogs: She gets on very well with other dogs. In fact, as she loves the company of other dogs she would be best suited to a home where she is not the only dog. Cats: She shares her foster home and garden with a stroppy ex stray tom cat so is cat friendly but would chase one if she saw one out and about.
NIEVE’S DREAM HOME
Nieve would love a country or seaside home to call her own with gentle, kind and understanding people who will give her the time to develop and who are happy, through play, to continue with further training for her.
An active family would suit her very well but not one with small children. She really needs a home with another dog, or dogs, who will help her to settle in and learn the ropes. A dog savvy cat would probably not present a problem.
It will be a very lucky family who adopt this adorable, pretty little lady.
