Parade of Rescue Dogs
2005 Dogs
Leading the 2005 PARADE was our Founder and Co-ordinator in Ireland Sandie Bissett accompanied by Pauline & Steve Jefferey’s 13yr old Golden Retriever DANNY
Apart from the 3 Golden Retriever girls (Anouska, Tina and Jordan) that she bred
herself, Sandie has 5 rescue dogs who have all stolen her heart over the years. They
are Barkley, Jessica, FOREVER FOSTERS Molly and mad Monty and, very recently,
the gorgeous Oscar.
They were closely followed by the handsome Labrador JIM with his mum Rita
Turner who, together with Lorraine’s late D’Arcy, were on the very first boat over
from Dublin to Holyhead and IRR Rescue was born.
11.5yr old RICKY GRANGER and mum Julie
9yr old KIMBA MORRIS with mum Pam
7yr old SAMMY LACEY and dad Ian
10.5yr old JAKE KOSSAKOWSKI with Bridgette
11.5yr old ELMO KOSSAKOWSKI with Bridgette
6yr old BOUNCER WARD and mum Regina
and finally (also sporting the family Mohican haircut) Bouncer’s litter sister
6yr old KELLY ELLIS and mum Rosa
Unfortunately unable to attend this year were Anne Jones and JUMBLE and Pauline Fowler with BEN. We are all hoping to see you again next year.
Sadly all these lovely dogs (IRR dogs and doggy friends of IRR) have passed over Rainbow Bridge since our 2010 Reunion. Gone but never forgotten, they have all flown with the angels and are now running happily together in the Rainbow fields.
ISABELLE, BRODIE , POLLYANNA, TILLY, HONEY, KERRY, BELLA, JOSIE, BELLA, HOVIS, JADE, POPPY, SAMMY, SASHA, SKYE, TEDDY
For sure, they are all running free together now.
2006 Dogs
5yr old GIZMO JEFFEREY and Craig Norman
6yr old LOLA JONES with mum Lynne
6yr old ELLIE DAGGER with mum Val
10yr old CASEY FLYNN with mum Gwen
Sadly missed this year was TWINKLE ASTOR and her lovely mum Christine. We hear Christine is very poorly and we are all thinking of her and sending her our love and very best wishes for a full recovery.
Last in the Parade was the gorgeous Golden Retriever SOPHIE COLLINSON. She was taken into the ring by Ian Ellis on behalf of her dad CHAS who very generously donated the beautiful set of Golden Retriever plates for our Auction in memory of his late wife Carole who was the victim of a very tragic freak accident. We are delighted to say the plates raised the magnificent sum of £100 for the rescue.
2007 Dogs
Leading the 2007 Parade was Belinda McAvoy who with husband Terry started off as adopters. They became fosterers and transporters and also took on the role of merchandising experts. Last year and this they have also totally organised the Reunion, which involves hours and hours of work behind the scenes. Millie was their first IRR dog but Belinda accompanied 5yr old Golden Retriever CONNIE their
second adoptee. She was followed in the Parade by her two strapping, handsome sons
4yr old BRIAN HAMMOND with mum Sandra
4yr old DRAKE BOYD with mum Helen
8yr old MILLIE McAVOY and Katie Millar
6yr old TOBY LEGGETT with mum Anita
6yr DIGBY READER-HOER with mum Tracey
6yr old STEVIE PHIPPS with mum Alison
8.5yr old ZACH WORSLEY with dad Phil Taylor
8.5yr old BERTIE WORSLEY also with dad Phil. He and Jan are now in charge of
the IRR website as well as remaining fosterers and transporters to name but two jobs.
5yr old DAISY LONG with dad Ray
10yr old CHARLIE LONG with mum Maggie
and finally was CASSIE MARSHALL accompanied by her mum ANN.
At the show later but not in the Parade were DAZZLE JAMES and mum DI and PENNY JAMES with dad ALAN.
Sadly regular JACK GRANT with mum SHONA was unable to make it this year.
2008 Dogs
Heading the 2008 Parade was LORRAINE CANNON who is our UK Co-ordinator
Lorraine leads the team in the UK with great compassion and calm efficiency. She has a very wise head on her young shoulders and is responsible for making all final decisions as well as finding the very best homes for the Golden Retrievers who come to us. She has great intuition, good people skills and is very thorough. She dedicates a huge amount of her free time to IRR as finding the right person / family often involves her having lengthy telephone conversations with prospective adopters prior to home checking and sometimes again afterwards but she will always do her best to find the perfect match for every dog.
She has a particular soft spot for the oldies….first losing her heart to her beloved Darcy and then to OLD SAM who, despite his possible 15yrs of age, still has a determination to match that of his mammy.
4.5yr old DAISY TUCK and mum Anne
7yr old ABIGAIL McAVOY and mum Belinda
9yr old HARRY RUSSELL and dad Brian Taylor
11yr old ANGEL SMITH and her nanny Pat Hurley
10yr old SAM SMITH with his new dad Luca Zoccoli
9 yr old ALLIE SMITH and her grandpa John Hurley
8yr old BUDDY TOOKE and dad Graham
6yr old LOUIS PHILLIPS and his mum Joan were at the show but, unfortunately, missed being in the Parade this year.
At the very last minute, regular ABI ANDERSON had to stay at home due to Kennel Cough so was unable to attend with mum JUDY. Other regulars who were very much missed this year and we are looking forward to seeing again, as usual, in 2012 were:-
ISSY BOWLER and mum Diane, HEIDI HENSHAW and mum Barbara, JUDY TAYLOR and dad Ken, MOLLI TONKS and mum Debbie Fievez, BUSTER WARR and dad Richard and JEZ YEANDLE and mum June.
2009 Dogs
Leading the 2009 Parade was 4yr old HARLEY EDWARDS with dad OWEN. Owen and Sandra are not only responsible for making all the lovely rosettes for the show but they also devote much of Reunion day to running the fun agility rings. Harley was once a bit of a “bad boy” but with careful, experienced and gentle handling, he is now a much loved member of their varied houseful of dogs.
10yr old STELLA McAVOY with mum Belinda. Stella is a “failed” foster dog but who could resist this rather beautiful but occasionally naughty old lady? Stella is the matriarch of an ever increasing family. Belinda and Terry specialise in the successful rehabilitation of traumatised ex-breeding bitches and sometimes their puppies. Foster dogs at their house, apart from their suitability for living with other dogs, are also tested for their cat and chicken friendliness.
5yr old FREDDIE MOORE with mum Julie. Another “failed” foster. After gently nursing Freddie through very unpleasant operations on his eyes, how could Julie have ever let go of this handsome, gentle boy? Julie and Simon continue to foster regularly for IRR and are able to make sure their foster dogs are thoroughly childproof as well as happy to live in a multi-dog family.
5yr old HARVEY WHITE with mum Jane. Yet another “failed” foster dog but who could resist this good looking boy? Luckily Jane and Malcolm continue to foster regularly and are able to test for the reactions of their foster charges to other dogs, cats, chickens and even pigs. Jane is also a whizz at all things concerned with microchipping while Malcolm is one of the regular transporters.
8yr old MILLIE MORGAN with mum Kate. Millie was one of the many extremely nervous ex-breeding bitches who come into IRR care but, having already successfully rehabilitated Dawn from similar circumstances, IRR knew Millie was in safe hands.
4yr old LEVI HERRING with mum Nicky. Yet another “failed” foster, Levi hasn’t been an easy dog but he is adored by Nicky, Ray and family. Nicky is able to test her fosters for living with children, other dogs and cats. Levi has been poorly recently and almost didn’t make it to the show so we are all hoping he is much better soon.
10yr old BEN HARRIS and mum LINDA and 4yr old ROXY CUMMINGS, dad STEVE and family were at the show but, unfortunately, were unable to make the Parade.
Sadly QUINN with Aly Reaston and TEDDY with Maggie Roberts were unable to make it to this year’s Reunion but we hope to see them again next year.
2010 Dogs
Leading the 2010 Parade was 7yr old BONNIE MOORE and dad Simon who with Julie is a regular, excellent fosterer. Although the gorgeous Bonnie is a FOREVER FOSTER DOG, she is actually a totally adored, full member of the family. Although she will always be IRR’s responsibility, to help IRR as much as possible, more often than not, Simon and Julie kindly pay her medical bills themselves which is much appreciated.
Next was 9 to 10 yr old SMUDGE BOLTON with VAL. She and her son, Andy, have now fostered 85+ dogs over the years and it would be in excess of 100 if they counted the overnight stays on their way to other fosterers. Smudge was their first “failure” but every dog in their care has been spoilt rotten, often for the first time in their lives. Ask Val what the dog is like and she will always reply “he / she is looovvly”
Next was 4yr old GEORGIE JEFFEREY with dad Stephen. Stephen always works extremely hard in the days before the Reunion setting up the marquees, tents and gazebos and marking out the rings etcetera.
Following Georgie were 5 of the Romanian dogs that we were happy to help:-
6.5yr old SAMMY BERESFORD with mum Jane
2yr old BELA DRACUP with dad Nigel
2yr old MAISY DRACUP with mum Belinda
8yr old NEMO WOODHOUSE with mum Maddy
5yr old DINKY MAE-SIMPSON with mum Abbie
Then returning to our Irish rescues we had:-
8+yr old BERTIE TOLHURST with dad Phil
6yr old CASSIE PUSS PUSS with mum Rosie Hadley
Very much missed this year was ELLA ANDERSON who couldn’t make it at the last minute due to Kennel Cough. Others unable to attend this time were MOLLIE WESTRAY and Nigel, ELIAS GUY and Lucy and ANNIE (FOREVER FOSTER DOG) and Julie Taylor.
2011 Dogs
17mth old FINLAY JONES with mum Yvette
2yr old PENNY WILLIAMS with mum Adele
2.5yr old HARRY CATHERY with dad Malcolm
4.5yr old OSSIE WAYGOOD with mum Wendy. We are really grateful to Wendy who has always been a great fund raiser for IRR despite not having her own IRR dog until, after the loss of her beloved Honey and Kerry, she adopted the very gorgeous Ossie.
5yr old DAISY TOLHURST very recently adopted by mum Wendy, a new fosterer. Her family is able to test for child and cat friendliness as well as the suitability of their foster dog to living in a multi dog home.
7yr old KERRY LEMON with mum Eileen
Finally, looking for a very special forever home was the gorgeous Golden Retriever RUSTY who is currently in foster with Val and Andy in the Midlands.
Unfortunately, David Meakin with his recently adopted ex foster dog ZOEY was unable to make it to the show at the last minute.
We were also sad not to see LUCY and JACK McKENZIE withJenny and Julie who were unable to come at the last moment.
