Phoebe

Phoebe is a sweet, 3 year old, light golden spayed female Golden Retriever. She has been health checked and inoculated for travel to the UK.

HISTORY

She came through the Cork SPCA with whom we have a great relationship.  Although she came from a family, little is known about her background.

She is currently being assessed by Phil and Mary who are experienced fosterers

PERSONALITY

Phoebe is affectionate and her tail wags like a helicopter when she sees you.

She is confident, alert and inquisitive, playful and just a happy little girl trying very hard to please. She can be a little over excitable but that is as was to be expected.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Phil describes her as lovely, very healthy, little girl, considerably smaller than expected, maybe even a  cross but a lovely natured young thing. We’re not sure about the original age assessment but makes little difference. She is becoming more relaxed as time goes on.

TRAVEL: She is happy and content travelling in a vehicle

HOUSETRAINING: She seems to be fully house trained and understands some basic commands.

RESOURCE GUARDING: She is not food or toy possessive.

SEPARATION ANXIETY: She shows no signs of separation anxiety

LEADWALKING: She pulls even on slip lead but she is not fazed by cars, lorries, motorcycles or crowds of people. She seems to have come from an urban environment so is excited by smells in the countryside and that causes her to pull. She mixes well with all although, at the moment, she is still very excited.

ADULTS and CHILDREN: She is very friendly with adults and children.

DOGS: She is good with her fosterer’s dogs. In Ireland, she seemed to get on well with Soldier, another IRR dog with whom she bonded, as he seemed to make her feel safe.

CATS:  She has met the cat and is very interested to follow but has not tried to chase.

PHOEBE’S DREAM HOME

This wonderful girl is not suited to a young family but needs one with time available just for her and with people who are prepared and able to patiently give this girl guidance and some positive training.

Having another dog or dogs in the home would be a wonderful way of building her confidence and will help her to adapt more easily to normal family life.

With just a little work and a lot of love, Phoebe, for sure, will make a great family pet.

April 2017

Phil and Mary have fallen for Phoebe’s charms and she will be stayng with them in their Forever Home.
