Pip Fowler
GOODBYE TO A SWEET OLD BOY (2006? – 30.3.2018)
We were so sorry to hear of Pauline’s loss of dear Pip on 30th March 2018. He, suddenly, went off his legs during the night and, sadly, when the vet came, he gave Pauline the dreadful news that she had to say “farewell” to her beloved boy.
Pip was such a gorgeous boy and we know how much he meant to Pauline. She described him as a wonderful, loving, faithful constant companion. His final release was an act of kindness and true love although we know it broke Pauline’s heart to have to say “goodbye” to her wonderful, sweet boy.
Being just the two of them, her lifestyle was perfect for his needs. Because of his earlier years, he was a total homebird and the big wide world scared him (Sprocket is very much the same). We know Pip was totally content with pottering in her garden whenever the mood took him and he was just as happy laying at Pauline’s feet and snoozing or just keeping a watchful eye on her.
All at IRR want to thank her so much for giving our lovely old boy the best of everything for three and a half special years.
Reunited forever now with your dear old friend Patrick and your predecessors Chip and Ben, fly high with all the other wonderful dog angels, Pip.
He truly was an angel but his work on Earth was done.
As friend, guide and protector, all moulded into one
His skills are needed somewhere else, another job awaits
So angels called him back to brighten Heavens pearly gates
Memories are precious, they keep our loved ones near
They help to soothe the awful loss of those we hold so dear
Memories are special they help us through the pain
They soothe and lift our spirits till we feel whole again
So fly free now sweet angel and enjoy your days to come
At Rainbow Bridge with all our friends who wait to greet their mum.
Sweet dreams, our gorgeous golden boy. Fly high into the sky.
Have fun and games with Chip and Ben and, just for now, "goodbye"
EARLY HISTORY
In 2014, Paul, a Golden Retriever, who was about 8 or 9 years old, was rescued together with a 6 to 7 year old Goldendoodle called Peter that we suspected may have been his son and an old Labradoodle called Patrick.
They were all placed in a Welsh Pound after an RSPCA raid, being the possible subjects of a prosecution which didn’t, in the end, go ahead. The Pound was very overcrowded and their futures were very uncertain but, thankfully, at that point, they were all rescued together by a wonderful, small charity, Greenacres Rescue in Haverfordwest.
Sadly Patrick was in a terrible state and was terminally ill so, despite everyone’s best efforts, the kindest thing was to give him sleep.
Happily, Paul and Peter, whilst very badly neglected and in poor condition, were basically healthy and IRR were delighted to be able to help by taking over their rehoming.
Paul was fostered in the Bath area whilst Peter’s home was in Bristol. Both dogs were found to be extremely friendly with both people and other dogs. Neither dog seemed to have any particular response to their names so Paul became Pip and Peter, so cute and amusing, began to answer to Sprocket!!!
Someone was already waiting for a kind and gentle older dog who loved nothing better than being fussed and petted and Pip fitted that bill exactly so, judging by the loving kisses, it seemed this union was going to be a match made in Heaven.
A PERFECT HOME (November 2014)
Pip went to his Forever Home with Pauline who, like him, was feeling lonely
UPDATE FROM PIP’S FOREVER HOME (November 2014)
Pip is settling in well with his new Mum who he, already, clearly adores. His coat is beginning to grow back and has become much more shiny. Exercise is slow and easy as he has little muscle but he adores pottering in the garden between rainstorms which is a good start. He is still a bit anxious but he is regularly having his flower essences which will be bound to help him get used to all the new things in his life including household gadgets and meeting lots of ladies who he greets with a waggy tail and a friendly lick.
He now has a brand new collar and lead, car harness and “Slowdown” bowl to stop him gulping his food. So far, he has shown no interest in toys but he does love his treats and, most of all, he adores his cuddles.
FURTHER UPDATE (December 2014)
Pip is looking very good. He has gained weight but not too much as he needs to keep pressure off his joints until his muscles have built up a bit more. Pauline, wisely, is taking everything slowly with him.
He loves pottering around the garden and, after a few mini accidents initially, Pauline has cottoned on to his rather strange way of asking to go out which involves sitting in front of her and stretching his head upwards. She wonders if, maybe, Pip once lived in a basement and outside to him was upstairs.
His anxiety is almost completely a thing of the past now, no doubt thanks to his flower essences and very experienced, understanding forever mum. He still greets everyone with a waggy tail and a friendly lick and everybody who meets him, without fail, thinks he is is a really gorgeous boy.
Pip learns quickly, loving his treats, but he still has no interest in toys as cuddles are definitely his thing. Like Sprocket, he will lean against you tightly until you fuss him, never wanting you to stop. Both are extremely loving dogs and, interestingly, they both have enormous feet so another idle thought was maybe Sprocket is Pip’s lovechild with a stunning Standard poodle as they are both such wonderful dogs.
