16th March 2016 – Update from Ronnie’s Foster Home
Ronnie is a fabulous boy and will flourish in his forever home. He is very loving and affectionate and will often come and put his head in your lap just for a stroke and a tickle. He gets on very well with people and other dogs, he settled very quickly with our dogs and we have also had family dogs staying over and there have been no problems whatsoever. Like all young dogs he is full of life and eager to learn and when this is channelled in the right direction he will become a super companion for some lucky person. He loves to be out walking and will sit in line patiently whilst his harness is put on. He walks well on the lead alongside our dogs even though they are a lot older and slower than him. At feeding time he sits and waits until he is given permission before he will start eating. All in all Ronnie is a fabulous boy who deserves to be in his forever home sooner rather than later.
February 2016 – update from Ronnie’s foster home:
In the short time I’ve known Ronnie I’ve found him to be a dog that is handsome, very loveable and totally non aggressive both with humans and other dogs. When out walking he does have a fixation with cats but when corrected he does revert back to the discipline we’re trying to instil into him.
We can honestly say that up until now he’s had no basic dog training in lead walking, recall, etc… but he is very bright and has shown a quick response into learning the basics. He is good on the lead but his recall does require working on. He’s non food aggressive and will sit and wait his turn to be fed and is very gentle when taking a treats from the hand.
After a few days training he now understands the sit command at the roadside and in the house whilst awaiting his meal and to have his lead put on. Ronnie responds very well to any affection shown to him and he loves nothing more than to “cuddle up” on the sofa but it must be remembered he’s a large boisterous puppy in a big dogs body but no more boisterous than our retrievers were at the same age.
Ronnie has been to the groomers for a “wash and brush up” and the fed back we received was that he was easily handled and very well behaved.
He likes to meet new people, including children and is good with children, however we feel he would be more suited to a family with older children due to his boisterous nature. We feel he would be better suited to a home as an only dog or with an older dog that is prepared to help correct his over enthusiasm. Currently Ronnie daily meets with a number of other dogs (male and female) to walk and he has integrated well into the group.
In our opinion Ronnie is a lovely dog and would be a great addition to any household with a little bit of training which he seems keen to take on board.
HISTORY
Ronnie came to Irish Retriever Rescue due to a change in family circumstances.
PERSONALITY
Ronnie has an affectionate nature. He loves to play and to run as fast as he can.
SOCIAL LEARNING
Ronnie is house trained, has good recall and is strong on the lead. Like most youngsters Ronnie is quite boisterous. He gets on well with children and adults. He does get a little anxious if left alone for any length of time. He has lived both outside and indoors and needs boundaries set for him. Ronnie is not good with cats.
DREAM HOME
Ronnie needs a loving home where his boisterous, affectionate puppy ways can be directed with exercise, play and ongoing training, enabling him to reach his full potential as he develop into a delightful family pet.
Ronnie needs to be with another dog and preferably not with young children because of his boisterous character.
June 2016
