Rosie
REPORT FROM HER FOSTERER
Rosie arrived, obviously a bit bewildered, with her 10 week old puppy Fergal in the early hours of the morning but after a wash and brush up and some breakfast she seemed a lot happier. She settled in with our girls really well and showed no signs of aggression. She ate well but was very wary about going through doorways and entering rooms she hadn’t been in before. Once through, she was fine. After a few days of settling in, she became quite lively and pursued our poor, long suffering, cat around the garden.
We weren’t too confident about letting her loose with the chickens either! She pulls a lot on the lead, I am not sure she has ever been on a lead before, and is very interested in all the smells that are around. She doesn’t take any notice of Fergal who has settled in with his aunties quite happily.
ROSIE GOES TO HER NEW HOME – 12/02/2011
Rosie met her new mum and dad and sister Sarah today and they all got on very well. She and Sarah were quite happy with each other and she took to her new mum, Sally, straight away, in fact she jumped into their car without a backward glance. Her forever home has some lovely woods and a stream so she and Sarah can run around and play.
Sally wrote that evening: ” We are all home safe and sound. Rosie has sniffed her way around the house and part of the garden and is now relaxing with her new toy.”
FOREVER HOME UPDATE – ONE WEEK ON
Rosie seems to have settled in well. Last Sunday, I took her for her first walk through the woods – on the lead of course!
Today we had booked to go for lunch at our favourite restaurant. So we took Sarah and Rosie with us and, as it was so nice and sunny, we were able to sit outside and Rosie was very well behaved. (Sarah is always well behaved and we can take her anywhere – so it is what we expect of our dogs!) We then went to the beach and Rosie had her first experience of sand and sea and she seemed to enjoy herself. She even had a paddle!
Here’s a picture (taken this morning) of Rosie asleep in her bed in the kitchen – note the “Do not Disturb” sign!
UPDATE 18.3.2011
Rosie is responding well when called at home – and today for the first time we let her off the lead in our own garden and she didn’t make a bid for freedom! She and Sarah seem to be getting on OK.
Rosie has settled in really well. She seems to love all our woods and is getting better each day at coming back when she is called, which with all those interesting smells to distract her is quite something. We are working at walking to heel on the lead – and we are making some progress, albeit slowly as she is so excited and does pull quite a lot. However, each morning when we go out we walk a set route and the routine has embedded itself so that she walks this very nicely without pulling at all, which just proves she can do it! The condition of her coat is improving although her ‘feathers’ on her legs haven’t grown back yet.
She has eaten/partially destroyed the first two toys that we gave her, so I very rashly bought her another one this week. She is so proud of her new toy that she brings it as a present when either of us comes home. Everyone who meets her is completely smitten!
Sarah continues to be very gracious when Rosie pushes in for attention.
They are both fast asleep in their beds at the moment and it seems a shame to have to wake them up to take them out, but it is our bedtime so needs must!
