Rosie

Rosie is a pure bred, light golden, Golden Retriever who was approximately 7 or 8 months old when she came into IRR care. She was not spayed as she has not yet had her first season. She was a healthy weight, was micro-chipped and had received the necessary vet checks to allow her to get her Pet Passport.

UPDATES FROM HER PERFECT FOREVER HOME

As soon as they met her, Sue and Bob immediately fell in love with Rosie who was exactly what they were hoping for.

Sue says “Rosie is now a Swindon resident. She vomited her way through Bath but was, otherwise, very good in the car. We stopped for a walk in Dyrham Park but she went into commando position the minute she got out of the car! so we pressed on.

Understandably, she is very tired but she seems to really like the garden so we are going to have a very quiet few days. She has wagged her tail at us a few times but, so far, hasn’t had a drink yet”

Sue tells Belinda “I know its early days but Rosie slept really well and has been very relaxed today. She has learnt a game with her Sprong toy and we have started some basic training.

She is getting braver in the garden and has been perfect with my Mum, who adores her. This is entirely down to all the socialisation you have given her so a huge thank you for that!

I’ve booked her in for a ‘meet the vet’ session just to get her used to him”

Sue was delighted to have found a vet that totally understands about Titer testing and told us: ” Rosie started bleeding last night so we shall be experiencing her first season together. It is making her very clingy and cuddly at the moment, which is nice but I guess we’ll have to think hard about where to walk her. She has been really loving her walks so it’s a pleasure to see her out and about.

She is an angel, so friendly to everyone. She is really starting to enjoy the garden, she saunters down to the end, races back into the house like a Greyhound, then sits in the kitchen looking smug!

She really likes being brushed and, boy, does she love her food! I had to get her one of those ‘puzzle bowls’ to slow her down. I found that dropping a kibble into the bottom of her water bowl gets her to drink, which is a huge relief because I thought she was going to dehydrate otherwise.

In short, we all love her. My twin sister is smitten (she is going to stay in our house with her while we go to the wedding and, of course, my mum loves her to bits too.

I’ve sent you this picture as she spends so much time sleeping…it’s like a hobby with her …and she goes spark out. She frightened me the first couple of times as she is so deep in dreamland – I suppose the poor darling has a lot to process”.

Sue told Belinda “She is just such a darling, very cuddly and starting to play a little bit, though she looks mighty offended if I throw anything for her to catch. She is enchanted by all wildlife although we do have to pull her out of rabbit holes like a cork from a champagne bottle! She got a pigeon yesterday from our neighbour’s cat and started to eat it! I had to explain to her she is supposed to retrieve! Luckily she lets me take things off her. She tries to catch frogs, but always misses, and crows, magpies etc.

We just love her so much already. She still looks for you two sometimes when we’re out and, if she sees her reflection, I think she thinks its one of your dogs

Rosie had her ‘meet the vet’ appointment today and was thoroughly checked and approved. She was a good girl and she had her nails cut as well! The vet reckoned she was not fully grown and said her weight is about right at her current size (18.3 kg) which Rosie will not be pleased with – she was definitely a gannet in another life.”

HISTORY

Rosie came from the same horrendous conditions as Magic and Lily but, fortunately, she hadn’t been bred from as she was too young. The large puppy breeding operation was recently closed by the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in a high profile case.

Rosie was groomed, de-fleaed and de-wormed. Unfortunately, she was also covered in flea dirt but the Vet thought her flea infestation was not as extensive as Lily’s. She is being well looked after in her foster home in Somerset and will soon get a safe, loving home where she will be treasured and loved and will receive the attention she so richly deserves.

REPORT FROM HER FOSTER HOME (31.5.2015)

Belinda tells us “Rosie is a dear little dog, very good natured, biddable but still has a puppyish cheeky side to her. She is quite small for a golden as I imagine she is pretty well fully grown by now.

She defers to my dogs, but gets on really well with them.

She is totally housetrained and her recall in the garden is excellent, although of course, she hasn’t been off lead outside the garden. Obviously with 7 dogs, I am not able to give her much one to one training. She is very greedy but has learned to sit when she has a treat.

She is fascinated with the chickens, and sits and gazes at them through the wire of their run, even though one of them pecked her on the nose!

I believe Rosie will make someone a really super companion. She is very affectionate and comes to me for a cuddle on the sofa every evening”.
