Roxy Cummings
Roxy who was originally called Bella is a gorgeous Golden Retriever who was 2 year old when rescued. The lady who originally owned her was a single mum who found she didn’t have the time for her so she gave her to friends who had her for 2 days. She has a lovely personality, is extremely gentle, gets on well with other dogs, likes the car but doesn’t particularly like having her lead put on probably because she was never really walked. She has lived with children and is house-trained.
Sandie said ” If I didn’t have 8 already, this girl would be going nowhere – she’s beautiful. Bella has obviously been fed on tinned dog food. I’ve tried to wean her off it but haven’t succeeded I’m afraid. She’s also a bit intimidated by eating with other dogs so would be better fed separately. She has now been spayed”
On arrival in the UK, Bella went into foster with Jane in Hampshire
BELLA’S FIRST DAY AT JANE’S
Jane said “Bella has settled very well. She has drunk water and eaten 2 small meals (my dry biscuits and a little tinned meat). She had a short 15 min walk with Bracken, my husband and son.”
“Everyone is very taken with her. She has a lovely (if demanding attention) personality. She enjoys a lot of fuss and helps me clear up the house by COLLECTING things in her mouth for me!! However she always gives them back.”
She has to learn a few manners where food is concerned and will sit in front of you, if allowed, watching and pegging while you eat. However, it took only 2 removes to get her to lay away from the dining table while the family ate. She understands the word “no”.
“One area she is unsure of is loud bangs in the garden e.g. neighbour’s car door and my garage door when she shot forward across the lawn looking behind her as she ran).”
BELLA OFF TO HER FOREVER HOME
Jane says “We took one last photo of her having her last morning cuddle with me”
“Steve collected Bella this morning. She took to them straight away and jumped happily into the car with his daughter on the back seat half an hour later. I set them up with enough food for the weekend and sent all her drops etc with her. We will miss her lots as she had settled in rather too well !!”
Bella is going to be living in Bristol with Steve and family who, sadly, lost their beloved Honey two months ago.
UPDATE FROM HER FOREVER HOME
Steve says. “After a lovely welcome from Jane and her family, she explained that Bella (now Roxy) was in the garden with her dog. When she called them, a beautiful Retriever ran in that we all thought was Jane’s and then we found out that she was Roxy. I still cannot believe she is a rescue dog, she was so relaxed and affectionate.
The journey home was fine she sat in the back with Hannah enjoying lots of cuddles and settled in to her new home without a fuss. She had a perfect first night. We entered the front room at half eight in the morning to find her sat waiting for us wagging her tail.
She had a accident on her second day but nothing since. After a little bit of work she is now fine on the lead and walks past other dogs but if we stop to talk she then can get very excitable and just wants to play. We have now had her 3 weeks and she has settled in great. Everyone loves her as she is so affectionate and loves to play, she is always carrying something a ball, teddy, socks but never chews.
Xmas was brilliant and she loved all the fuss, everybody adores her and she is getting fitter and more lively by the day and gets very excited when its walkies time waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. We cannot thank you all enough as although losing Honey was so heartbreaking and she will never be forgotten (thanks for the wonderful tribute on Rainbow Bridge), Roxy is the tonic we needed.”
UPDATE FEBRUARY 2010
Roxy is continuing to do really well and she has lost even more weight so she is getting a nice little waistline now. She loves running for her ball and is extremely friendly with everyone she meets.
