Rozie Lockley

Gone to Rainbow Bridge

ROZIE WAS A REMARKABLE GIRL BUT SHE LOST HER BATTLE TODAY (24.3.2020)

This afternoon, Tuesday 24th March, Cindy and Nigel lost Rozie.

They told us “She has spent the last 6 months fighting chronic kidney failure. It was in September, that she was only given only weeks rather than months to live but the stubborn little madam was not going to be told what to do.

Today, she was not well at all and didn’t even want to go for a walk. She finally succumbed to her illness. Her weight had dropped from 30kg to just under 20kg and it all got too much for her so we made the decision to end her pain.

She was the most lovable friendly dog ever and touched the hearts of all who met her. Even non dog lovers could not resist her gentle nature.

Sleep well little girl you are already missed”.

Our hearts go out to Cindy and Nigel. Thank you for all you did to give Rozie a wonderful life and a peaceful passing.

Lovely Rozie, go fly high with Lucy and Gizzie and all the other beautiful IRR dog angels.

11.2.2020 ROZIE’S SUNSHINE PICS

Nigel said “These are pictures of Rozie, our beautiful Goldie, that we have been lucky to have for two and a half years. Unfortunately, Rozie was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure last September and was only given weeks to live but our remarkable girl was still enjoying life 5 months later and, on 3.3.2020 , we celebrated Rozie’s tenth birthday.

MEMORIES OF ROZIE

THANKYOU TO THE IRR FAMILY

Nigel said ” I just wanted to say that Cindy and I both appreciated all of your kind comments regarding Rozie. She was the most lovable, gentle and friendly dog we have ever known. She will be missed by everybody who has ever met her.

It is very comforting to know that you all are there for each other, this is a great community. When we are ready for another rescue there is only one place to go and that is IRR”.

ROZIE’S HISTORY

Rozie is a stunning 7 year old pure bred, spayed, female Golden Retriever.  She is cream, almost white, in colour. This wonderful girl has received all the vaccinations necessary to travel and will be groomed before going to her forever home. She has now been spayed.

She belonged to a lady who was her sole companion. Rozie has been cosseted and loved her whole life and has wanted for nothing. She has never known abuse and, indeed, the opposite is true.

Her owner was very worried about what would happen to her but Kathryn assured her IRR is really careful about where their Golden treasures are placed and only the best would ever do. All our prospective adopters are specially chosen to suit each specific dog and meet their needs and very often adopters are those who have come back to us for a second or third family addition or after having loved and cared for their special IRR dog who has, sadly, passed over Rainbow Bridge.

After several conversations, having checked the website and spoken to our Dublin vet, the lady was assured that her darling girl would be equally loved. Since coming into IRR’s care, Rozie has been well looked after and loved by Nicola, her Irish fosterer.

UK FOSTER ASSESSMENT

Rozie went into foster with Diane.

PERSONALITY

Kathryn described her as a princess with a heart of gold. She is a little unsure about all the changes in her life but her confidence is building daily. Affectionate Rozie has a loving personality and is the gentlest of creatures. She holds her favourite toy in her mouth and longs to share it with you. As expected from a dog who has been so well loved, she seems to have no bad habits at all.

Rozie’s UK fosterer says “Rozie is a lovely dog,  very gentle and quiet but she also loves to play when she is ready.  Favourite toys are her ‘teddies’ that she came with and fetching the ball.  She eats well and drinks plenty.  She has dried food mixed with various additions eg sardines, egg, milk, gravy, vegetables.  All additions are varied with the meals.   Rozie sleeps well and has not made any effort to go anywhere in the house that she shouldn’t be.

HEALTH

Rozie is generally in good health, apart from scratching. There is no apparent problem causing this but Diane will give her a medicated bath to see if it eases it for her.

SOCIAL LEARNING

Diane tells us “Rozie is quite well socialized and trained in basic commands. She understands sit, stay, no, go, down, heel and leave.  I am working on making sure she sits before crossing every road as she is quite a strong dog and can pull suddenly when walking  so just keeping her alert to basic commands is important”.

TRAVEL: Rozie is happy and content travelling in a vehicle

HOUSETRAINING: She is fully house-trained and is impeccably clean

RESOURCE GUARDING: She is very gentle mouthed and will easily give up toys or a ball to play.  She isn’t food possessive and will accept treats nicely and allow her food bowl to be taken away.  The only time she has ever growled is, shortly after Rosie arrived, when my partner first put his arm around me.  We got round it by both stroking her while my partner had still got his arm round me and there have been no incidences since then.

SEPARATION ANXIETY: She shows no signs of separation anxiety.  She can quite happily be left for a couple of hours during the day.  I leave the radio on and she has a kong with treats to play with as well as her toys.

LEADWALKING and RECALL: Rozie is superb on a lead and has a fabulous recall. Diane says “ Rozie walks well on a collar and extending lead although she can pull suddenly occasionally.  She has no worries about walking in the rain.  She loves to have fuss from anyone that looks her way”.

She loves walks and enjoys long lead time when she can go and sniff for anything interesting.  Rosie will always try to walk on the right hand side of the walker and will cross behind to get back on the right after dropping behind.

ADULTS and CHILDREN: She is very good with adults and is fantastic with children. Rosie is a lovely gentle dog.  People have stopped us to say how delicately she walks.  She will stop and expect a fuss from any available person, totally ignoring their dog if they have one.  The children are 10 and 7 and she loves to have lots of attention through grooming and play.  She is now starting to moan at the children if they aren’t playing enough.  The moaning is not to be confused with growling.

DOGS: In Ireland, she was great  with other  dogs and has been in foster with a 1 year old Italian Spinone for the last month. She was, initially, unsure of how to play with other dogs and so this opportunity of playing and living with a youngster has helped her a lot. Diane says “She has been out on the lead with a friends Shih tzu with no problems at all but when other dogs meet up and start sniffing her she stiffens up and looks a little worried.  She is getting better and sometimes after meeting she will come away with a smile and look a little more relaxed”.

CATS and SMALL FURRIES: She shows curiosity about small animals eg cats and squirrels but she has not attempted to lunge at any of them so far.

ROZIE’S DREAM HOME

Rozie needs a home not dissimilar to her first where she will be loved to bits and where she will want for nothing. Another dog or dogs would boost her confidence but is not essential.  Nicola says that Rozie needs space and it would be preferable if her forever home was on the coast as she loves the beach so much. Goldens are renowned for their love of water and Rozie is no exception.   The people who adopt Rozie will, definitely, be extremely fortunate.

A FANTASTIC FOREVER HOME (OCTOBER 2017)

We are delighted to say Rozie has landed on all four paws having been adopted by Cindy and Nigel who have completely fallen in love with her. They are fantastic adopters from our early years, who have, sadly, lost their original IRR girl.

Nigel reports “Just to let you know that Rozie is everything that was said about her and more. You can see from the pictures how well she has settled. She has been to the vets and they now are aware of her weight and will be keeping a close eye on it.

Thank you for trusting us with Rozie. She is already a much loved member of the family. My twelve year old grand daughter has just asked if she can call round tomorrow afternoon to see me!!!!!!! I asked me? or Rozie? Interestingly, she did not reply”.
