Rudy Chalmers
REALLY SAD NEWS (3.4.2018)
Martin says “It’s with the heaviest heart that, after a most wonderful 6 years, I’m sad to say that Rudy has passed away due to his heart letting him down.
Thank you so much for giving us Rudy. He has now gone to join Doolie at Rainbow Bridge” leaving behind a grieving Tecwyn and his humans”.
DOOLIE AND RUDY SAYING GOODBYE
Martin muses ”Saying “goodbye” is the hardest thing you ever have to do to your best friend. Your head says it’s for the best but your heart questions it. Was it really time? Just one more day? What if? ….. it feels like murder.
No matter how many times you have to take that final journey it will never get easier nor be the same for each friend but I can say, for sure, that your friend would thank you if they coud speak.
You will feel guilty about the time you told them off for running away or for barking and you will beat yourself up inside but that is good because it means you loved them.
That wet nose at 4am, that slobbery tongue, those begging eyes and indeed those little accidents on the carpet, the joys of a new teddy, that huge waggy tail when you come home, the destroyed cushions, the time they laid on you when you were ill, yes these are the things you’ll come to remember.
So I say to you this…. YES it was the right decision, a decision made from love, the same unconditional love they gave you. A piece of your heart may go with them but remember they will all be there waiting for you one day to give you all those pieces back. So love them when they are there but love them still when they are gone.
Thank you for giving us these two remarkable boys. The pain now is worth the joys we have had with them both. We are going to have a little ceremony for Doolie and Rudy and we will play Katie Melua’s song.
You're precious, I can't stand seeing you cry
It hurts watching you get what you don't deserve
I tell myself you don't belong in this rough life
You should have a perfect world.
You should have a perfect world
You're too gentle and much too quick to forgive
Every slight thought you never been doubt
Well who knows if the world will ever deserve you
You should have a perfect world.
You should have a perfect world
We think it is perfect for summing up both Doolie and Rudy”
DOOLIE THE FOOLIE
“What an amazing boy, our big old waffle bot was, so called because he used to swing his hips as he walked along. He was very clumsy so we named him Doolie the Foolie.
Doolie was was always there wherever you went and he liked to sleep on the bed but as time went on Doolie couldn’t get up on the bed so he laid by the side of it.
He was a master beggar and usually ended up with what was our chippy dinner!!
Sadly, one day, Doolie wouldn’t come upstairs and didn’t want to go walkies. He kept falling and, after visiting the vets, we decided that his back end would no longer support him. Doolie had given up and was tired and one look into his eyes meant we knew it was his time so in … January 2017 we said “goodbye and see you soon”.
What a beautiful boy he was. He gave us nearly ten years of utter joy and love”.
RUDY
“Dear Rudy, from the minute he arrived to the minute he went, you would never know he was there. He was so quiet and so very laid back. He never gave us one second of trouble. Rudy was our totally laid back boy and nothing phased him but what a bundle of joy he was. He loved dressing up and was so eager to please.
After Doolie went, we thought Rudy was grieving and being sad. Then we found out that, because he used to follow Doolie everywhere, Rudy didn’t have to hear us which meant we never knew he was deaf. Still, it didn’t stop him and he learnt to follow us into the kitchen for treats and late night tinkles.
Rudy was panting a lot and we thought it was the warm house but one day, at walkies time, he just couldn’t walk. Sadly, Rudy’s heart had given up and his stomach was distended. He was extremely pale and it was Rudy’s time.
We are happy that Rudy and Doolie are together now with AJ as they are no longer in pain but we are very sad as we miss them both terribly.
ONCE THREE LOVELY BOYS NOW ONE
HISTORY
FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT – IRELAND
Sandie said ” Rudy was handed in to IRR from a man who found him running loose on the motorway. He kept Rudy at home overnight and got on well with his rescuer’s other dogs, cats and chickens.
Rudy had a filthy undercoat which was manky to touch but after 2 hours of grooming he looks a lot better now, although his fosterers will need to continue grooming him as I doubt I’ll get to finish it before he goes. He is a very quiet boy and really enjoys all the attention he gets here. He’s the ONLY DOG EVER who sat to have his photo taken just after arriving – this guy is bomb proof and totally chilled and would suit any home situation.
I’ll be taking him in to my vet to be neutered tomorrow”.
DEC 2011: FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT – UK
Rudy arrived safely last night and there were no problems with him during the one hour journey back home.
As mentioned in Sandie’s e-mails Rudy is very affectionate and a bit on the timid side. He’s met our other dogs and i don’t think he knows quite what to make of them: at the moment he hides himself away in another room!!
There’s been no signs of any aggression and I think he would like to play with Freddie and Bonnie. It’s early days and I’m sure they’ll become great friends over the Festive Season.
JAN 2012: RUDY HAS NOW GONE TO HIS FOREVER HOME
I’m very pleased to report that Rudy has found a wonderful forever home with Martin in Darlington. We wish Martin every success with Rudy and I’m sure he’ll settle in very quickly becoming firm friends with Doolin, also an IRR rescued golden retriever.
UPDATE JULY 2012 (in RUDY’S WORDS)
If Rudy could talk, this is how Martin, his adopter, thinks he would tell the story of his adoption experience:-
