Rupert Holling

SIX VERY HAPPY MONTHS

In May 2015, Jon says “As we approach the 6 month stage with Misty and Rupert, I thought I would share a quick update with you!

They are both doing VERY well. They have an incredible bond and are both great in the house and on walks. Rupert is much more relaxed overall. He is still a little bit nervous – for example if you make too much of a sudden movement or a loud bang but after the initial shock he settles again within a second. He now jumps on the sofa to lay on you – something he would never do even 4 weeks ago!

On walks, Rupert is great off the lead if there are no other dogs around. He will lay down when you say “WAIT” and let you put his lead back on – which is great. He follows you and recall is good. The only small issue is when he sees other dogs he wants to run and play and chase – but he plays quite rough so he will chase, then growl and try and nip them (in a very playful way) and then try and wrestle with them. He does the same with Misty but, obviously, she knows he is playing.

The problem is that other dog owners don’t know he is playing and think he is being aggressive sometimes – which he is not…his tail is wagging as he does it. I think this is because he was not properly socialised as a puppy, so he is being a big puppy now? I’m trying to tackle this so hopefully we will make progress! Everything else is excellent with no issues”.

EARLY HISTORY

Rupert (then Prince) is a neutered male Retriever Collie Cross aged about 9 months old. Little is known of his previous history.

FOSTER ASSESSMENT

He is a gentle boy, who has been knocked back by too many changes and uncertainties in his short life. He is learning to trust again though he is still easily scared and very submissive.

RUPERT’S DREAM HOME
Rupert needs a gentle, patient loving home, with someone around most of the time to continue the work of his current fosters, in building up this boy’s confidence. Although Prince could be re-homed as an only dog he may well benefit from a calm resident dog. A nurturing quieter home would suit Prince best.

A PERFECT FOREVER HOME (December 2014)

Rupert has gone to his Forever Home with also newly adopted Misty.
