Sally
Sally is 6 years old and is a small framed Golden Retriever. We have had to look for a home in an urban area for her as the reason for her surrender was because she likes to wander in the field with the sheep. Whilst she never chased or harmed them, the farmer threatened that the next time he saw her he would shoot her. She is a lovely girl who loves the car, gets on well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats. She is housetrained. She has evidence of an old injury to her leg but there is quite a lot of flexibility there and she doesn’t appear to be in pain. As arthritis will probably be an issue at a later stage, it is recommended that she is put on MSM, Glucosamine & Condroitin.
Her owner, who reluctantly had to surrender her to us, said “Sally came from the Pound in Roscommon approximately 4 years ago; at the time she was approximately 18 months old. She was spayed after we got her. She has been a great family pet, brilliant with children and adults alike.”
“She loves her food and would eat all day long if given a chance. She loves lying on the pavement, loves attention, being rubbed and being taken for walks though she prefers to be loose and doing her own thing” She is great with other dogs, brilliant with next door neighbour’s German Shepherd (male) and their terrier (male). She is also fine with our own Old English Sheep Dog, Lilly (female) although there may be an odd bark at eating time, otherwise they are both best of pals.”
“She is never sick and never NOT hungry. She sleeps in the utility room at night with Lilly and needs to be let out last thing at night. She loves indoors and gets all excited when in. She will chase the odd bird and doesn’t like cats at all. She loves getting into water/streams and comes back in a pretty dirty state but loves her bath and wash down even with cold water. She has never barked in anger/frustration, even when corrected, she will just stand in a spot. She’s obedient , when you tell her to stay, she stays but very good at this when at feeding time, she will do anything for food!”
“The only reason we have to part with her is because she loves to go next door and go into the fields with sheep. When she is in the field she just goes through and wanders but never barks or goes near the sheep. Then when she goes to the neighbours, she will just lie in the front door step/lawn and wait for me to collect her. If I hadn’t the problem with the farmers, Sally would never be going.”

Assessment 1
I collected Sally early on Saturday morning. She is settling in very well. She is good with other dogs and really enjoys her twice daily walks. My grandchildren came to visit and she was pleased to see them. They are aged 11 and 13.
Sally is very affectionate and loves to be made a fuss of. If Sally has any faults, it could only be her love of food. She will go to any lengths to reach for something to eat.
Assessment 2
Sally continues to settle in well and is very sociable. She is fine with my dogs most of the time although she will grumble at them if she is not first for everything. I don’t have cats so don’t know how she would be with them. Sally doesn’t seem to know how to play. She is not interested in a ball or toys and will bark at my dogs when they play. She travels well in the car. She is also a good house dog. She responds well with recall (on own land ) and likes to be made a fuss of for being a good girl. Sally walks well on the lead and I am teaching her to sit before we cross the road.
Sally is now living happily in Bristol.
