Sammy

HISTORY

Sammy took a while before he caught someone’s eye after his first home fell through for him so, as a 6 month old puppy, he was still in need of rehoming. He was fully vaccinated.

Sammy’s Retriever mix Mum, Bella, was surrendered in Ireland due to a change in family circumstances. Bella is a Retriever mix and looks as though she has been crossed with a Cocker Spaniel as she is quite small, about 14 inches.

To everyone’s surprise, she produced seven very bonnie and healthy babies of which Sammy was number four.

It seems Bella was in heat while she was in the Dog Pound and nature ran its course. IRR had no idea when Bella came to the UK she was already pregnant and it wasn’t until her adoptive family took her to the vet for a check up, a few weeks after her adoption, that it was discovered she was due to give birth within 2 weeks.

On 5th August 2012 Bella gave birth to 7 beautiful puppies.

FOSTERED FIRST WITH BELINDA AND TERRY

Puppy No 4 was, at first, fostered in Somerset with his sibling, Puppy No 7, who was slightly larger than him. He was found to be very bright and happy and full of fun. He loved to race around the garden chasing the adult dogs in the household – who were not always too keen to play with him! He got on well with visiting children (aged 10+). He hadn’t met the family cat yet but he did get used to the chickens.

SAMMY WAS MOVED TO A NEW FOSTERER IN NORTHANTS (Report 23rd October 2012)

We have begun to house train puppy number 4 and he is getting there. He has managed to go to the toilet outside a few times, but still needs time.

He is doing well with some basic training. For example, he is able to come when called; he likes to play catch and retrieve and is able to do this very well. He seems to be able to understand very well when he is asked to do something, like sit for food, and sit before a toy is thrown for him or given to him.

He is not toy or food possessive, though he is not overly keen on being put in to his crate when I do the school run, but we are working on this. He loves it when you get home; he is very bouncy and pleased to see you.

This is a very friendly pup with people and with other animals – An absolute star.

He travels beautifully in the car and is very calm, in fact sleeps.

He seems quite submissive but is always instigating play by bringing his snowman to us for a cuddle or a game of fetch.

This puppy is an absolute joy to have around. He sleeps wherever there is a human; loves playing with my children and is full of kisses for anyone he meets. He will make an amazing family pet. He is bursting with love for children and adults alike, although we have not yet taken him for a walk he instantly got on with our retriever and after a few minutes he got along with my mother in law’s jack Russell.

This dog is such a pleasure he really and truly is a wonderful puppy and will make someone an outstanding pet. I can’t stress enough how calm content and playful all at the same time he is. Kisses and cuddles are plentiful; he will follow me around, sit next to me and even try sitting on my lap when I’m working on the computer. I must stress how proud and amazed I am that this little lad isn’t concerned with chewing anything but doggy toys or his snowman. I can’t put into words really what a pleasure this puppy is.

STILL WAITING

Through no fault of his, Sammy’s first prospective home didn’t come about so he ended up having to stay in foster for three months.

Fosterer’s Report January 2013

Sammy gets on really well with our dog and they fit in comfortably together. Sammy is fully housetrained. He is very bouncy and loves to play. He is gentle with children and travels quite happily in the car. On the first few walks we have taken, Sammy has been really good on the lead. He walks closely without any tugging and is happy to meet other dogs, not in the least afraid. Indoors Sammy loves to climb up and sit on my lap, in fact he will do anything for a cuddle.
