Sandy

OCT 2011: FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT – IRELAND

Sandie says: Sandy is supposed to be 6 years old, but again, I would think he’s been around the block a few times and could be a bit older. I collected him at 9.30 last night and because I had nowhere to leave him, he slept in my (very large) spare bathroom.

He was very quiet and clean during the night. I’ve introduced him to some of my dogs and he’s fine, if somewhat indifferent to them – I’ll introduce him to the others later when he’s a bit more confident.
I’ve had him out the front a few times and he just plods around, never straying far from me – I’d say he’d walk beside you off the lead without any problem at all. He’s neutered, a bit overweight and is one of THE gentlest dogs I’ve ever known – pretty much bomb proof I’d say.

He’s had a good clipping, so must have been in quite a state. He’s quite timid, has no idea of his name and doesn’t know any basic commands – I’d say he’s been left to his own devices a lot.

This guy could be rehomed/fostered in any situation I would imagine – other dogs, kids, anything you’d throw at him I think he’d accept. He’s a lovely boy.

NOV 2011: FOSTERER’S INITIAL REPORT – UK

Sandy came to us on 30/10/11. So far I have not found many problems. He is fine with cats if they stand their ground, if they run he will follow them. Sandy is brilliant with children and will happily let strange children stroke him while we are out walking. He walks well on the lead for John but will try to pull when I walk him.

He is a little possessive over his food bowl even when empty. He eats fairly quickly and will finish before my dog and tries hard to get to her bowl despite being fed in separate rooms. Sandy has not got on the furniture even when we have gone to bed. He is good at night and does not bark or howl. Sandy will sit and lie down when told. He is a lovely boy and will make a wonderful addition to any family.

My friend came round with six of her thirteen dogs and both ‘Sandys’ were well behaved and played nicely with the small dogs, including four poodles, a chinese crested and a chihuahua. I have also put a photo on with Sandy and one of my cats, this dog is such a very good boy. I have found that all the dogs get on well with moggies but not pedigree cats.

NOV 2011: SANDY HAS NOW GONE TO HIS FOREVER HOME

Update from Sandy’s Forever Home June 2012

Before I start my update, l just wanted to say a big thank you for letting Sandy into our lives, he is such a pleasure to own.

We picked up Sandy from Jayne and John in Kidderminster in November 2011. Sandy is such a lovely dog, even from day one he has been a joy to own, so friendly to everyone. The only problem we initially had was Sandy’s food possessiveness, but that has now stopped.

We are also able to let Sandy off the lead which is so much better for him and for us when we take him to the country parks, he loves to be able to go off and sniff everything in his sights! Jayne and John recently had him for 2 weeks whilst we were away and they said how good he was for him.

It has been really nice keeping in touch with Jayne to let her know how Sandy has been doing, every day gets better with him, he is a big part of the family, but has taken us up until a month ago to get my older cat used to him! But now they are all friends, so a big thank you for everything and all the hard work you all do.
