Teddy
Charlie is a wonderful, 5 year old, neutered, male Golden Retriever. He is cream, almost white, in colour. This beautiful boy, has been groomed and has received his inoculations to travel to the UK. He is in very good health.
He is being fostered in Wiltshire.
HISTORY
He was due to be put to sleep as the family had to vacate their family home urgently and could not find anyone to take him. IRR were contacted by a member of the public and Kathryn, our IRR Ireland Co-ordinator, collected him immediately.
PERSONALITY
His fosterers tell us Charlie is a stunning boy. He is very affectionate and loves a cuddle.
He is happy to be groomed and loves his toys.
He can be quite vocal at times but he seems to be learning from his fosterer’s dogs that quiet is best. He is energetic and can be boisterous although he does seem to be calming down now he sees his fosterers as his family.
Kathryn said of him “This boy readily gives kisses and has a smashing personality. He is the consummate talker, sometimes you can’t get a word in edgeways. He sounds like he is growling but, not a bit of it, a kiss on his nose and he is a happy boy. He also loves digestives dipped in tea, though they are off the agenda, at least for now, as he needs to lose a little weight. Charlie begs sitting up on two legs and your heart just melts. He gives his paw and is the most fantastic boy”.
SOCIAL LEARNING
Housetraining: He is house-trained.
Travel: He travels very well in the car.
Separation: Charlie barks for a few minutes when left but very quickly settles down.
He greets us with a happy waggy tail wanting a fuss when we return home.
Basic training: He responds well to basic commands and is eager to please.
Behaviour: Naturally, as with all rescues, it is advisable to feed them separately but he isn’t food or toy possessive.
Leadwalking and recall: Charlie is a very strong boy and pulls on the lead so he is best walked on a halti. His recall is not good either so both need work.
Children: He is very friendly with children but would probably be too boisterous for little ones.
Dogs: In Ireland, he was in foster with three Red Setters and three Jack Russells. Now, in the UK, he is living with two dogs. He plays happily with them in the garden.
When out, on a lead, Charlie will lunge towards small dogs. However, he is generally friendly towards other dogs unless they snarl or growl at him.
Cats: Charlie was in foster with two cats in Ireland. He froze when he saw them as he was not really used to them but there was no sign of aggression. In the UK, he is again in foster with two cats. He is a little nervous of them but doesn’t chase them unlike the ones he encounters out in the garden. Horses: In Ireland, he was fostered in a home where they have five horses.
CHARLIE’S DREAM HOME
Charlie is the most stunning fellow in the world and will be a great addition to any family. He adjusted well to his fosterer’s extensive family in Ireland and is just as happy with his foster family in the UK so it appears he could pretty much fit in anywhere! All he needs is a place to call his own with people who truly love him and he will make someone a super dog.
Charlie would benefit from being rehomed with another dog or dogs.
