Unity Townsend

HOW CUTE WAS YOUNG UNITY?

Unity is one of the 6 puppies born to Cassie on 1st May 2015. The 4 boys are LouisTeddyMurphy and Dudley. The other girl is Peanut.

Helen, her forever Mum, says “Our precious Unity was originally Hannah but we changed her name as we already had a Hannah in the family. We brought her home on the Sunday when she was just over 7 weeks old. Her mum was Cassie, who was lovingly fostered by Pat, along with her litter of 6 puppies.

She is delightful and we love her to bits and wouldn’t be without her. She is an absolute delight, being calm and very responsive. Even when we had her less than a week it seemed like she had been here forever as she settled in so well. She sleeps quietly all night (from 10pm to 6.45am or longer) and makes us laugh by sleeping on her back with her paws in the air. She likes to plop herself right on top of me or sit very close while chewing a toy. She has power naps during the day interspersed with bouts of boundless energy, as she finds life so exciting. She keeps amusing us by running so fast she trips over her feet and by bouncing on all fours if she wants to play.

Unity is a precious member of our family. She has what I call a mad half hour, generally mid evening, when she runs around like a lunatic and doesn’t want to listen to anyone but at other times she is very teachable. Saying that, she got the vegetable rack out today and looked very contrite when I came in from the garden and found her in one corner of the kitchen with the veggie mess in the other. Her eyes looked at me as if saying ‘I am as baffled as you … I don’t know how it happened either’.

She has grown a lot in just a few weeks. The vet thinks that she is going to be a big girl and not at all dainty. My arms tend to agree as she was 8.8lbs at 10 weeks old. She has the most beautiful peachy golden colouring and the softest fur, particularly on her head and ears. The vet asked what working line she was from as she was so obedient, ultra friendly and chunky so I was very proud to explain that she was from IRR. She had her second lot of injections so that meant only one more week to go before she could go for walks, which would save my arms.

Unity is already sitting and waiting on command and is enjoying lead training. The tortoise isn’t real but the Guinea Pigs are!  She has made friends with them and our rabbits and will sit mouthing a carrot while the Guinea pigs have their food. Unity has been coming into their enclosure with me from day one, so they are all used to each other. They even kiss noses now.

Thank you so much to IRR for giving us the privilege of having her as part of our family”.
