History

A LOVELY MIDDLE AGED BOY

Winston will be 6yrs in January 2015. He is a lovely dog from the UK who was surrendered to us because of a change in family circumstances.

FOSTERER’S REPORTS

Winston is being fostered in Hertfordshire

Although he is quite a stocky chap and could probably do with losing some weight, his general health is good. He does not appear to have any infections, tummy upsets, diarrhoea or lameness.  He is neutered.

With further observations after two weeks, his fosterer reports:-

Character & temperament  Initially meeting him he was playful and happy and, since then, Winston has behaved well whenever he has met people.  He occasionally jumps up but soon gets down. He likes to give you his paw. He appears to be lovely and will make a really nice pet for someone.

Social learning  He is most definitely house trained as we’ve had no accidents at all. He is currently on his owner’s old lead/halti as we were advised he really pulls without it and some more training is required here.  His previous owner brought with him his own toy and we have given him one too but he is not overly interested.  He does not appear to be food possessive.  He slept in our son’s room on his first night, as he has always slept with another dog, and he settled down quickly.  So far he has not been left on his own.

Children He has met the fosterer’s 3yr old granddaughter and, under supervision, he allowed her to gently stroke him but, seeming to be a little afraid of her, he would be better in a home without small children.

Cats  Initially, he had only seen one of them through the window.  He was interested and whined a bit but there were no proper meetings with the fosterer’s 4 cats.  Having met them, Jill says he is OK with them apart from when they get too close to Derek, who he is regarding as his dad and not their’s.

Dogs His previous owner said that he did tend to bully her other dog and recommended he was adopted on his own. On his walks (on lead) he has met other dogs and he continues to be absolutely fine with them.

NEWS FROM HIS FOREVER HOME January 2015

Cherry wrote to say: “Just to let you know that Winston has settled in really well with us. He really enjoys his long walks across the fields and has even lost some weight!  And he likes nothing more than to fetch our slippers or gloves before a walk! He is also very cuddly affectionate dog. We love him to bits and can’t believe we have only had him for nearly three weeks.”
